The Consortium conditioning is something I imagined since the first time I came up with the Derideal story.

and its important for the theme of the whole comic,

Aden is created to be useful, to follow rules that he didn't cared. He just wanted freedom

Alpha is dominated by lies, by meeting expectations... by trying to be something he's demanded to be. and doesn't matter how much he tries, he keeps failing because he's an individual too, and deep down he feels he's missing something.

but xenos must obey orders if the humans wants to be safe of them, too.

the conditioning of the Consortium is basically a way to trigger a psychological effect on the xenos, they're suddenly full of fear, frozen fear and expectation... this effect only wear off after they comply the command.

so it's very difficult for xenos to disobey. this same effect is later enhanced... and most xenos shouldn't be capable to even go against a scientist, something that symbols on them a figure of maximium authority.
