“You’ve got to stop tryna run away, Darrel,” Thalia said,  shaking her head in disappointment. “Your family has put you into my  care, and I can’t care for you if I lose you.”

“C-Care for me?!” He shouted. “The other nurses keep trying to eat me!”

“Then I’ll hide you in my office,” she replied, toting him down the hall.

Once inside, she grabbed some string from her desk and began tying it around Darrel’s ankles.

“What’re you—”

“Shh,” Thalia said.

The giant bent down underneath her computer chair, taking a rogue  piece of the string and swiveling around a jutting screw beneath the  seat.

“There we go, baby,” she said. “Not so bad, right?”

Darrel was now hanging by his ankles underneath Thalia’s computer chair.

“I gotta get some work done,” she said, removing her sneakers from  her feet. She was wearing no socks. “Don’t make a fuss, or I really will  give you to one of the nurses.”

Darrel swung wildly as the giant pulled the chair out from under the  desk. After planting herself, she scooched back in, leaving Darrel  around her ankles.

As Thalia worked, she casually put her feet back, resting them on the spokes of the chair.

Darrel teared up as the heat from the woman’s soles assaulted his  senses. He had no choice but to look right into them, observing their  sweat, and dirt.

At this point, he’d almost hoped one of the other nurses found him and put him out of his misery.
