This week:

  • Feedback received
  • Small Physics Rework
  • Chairs

Feedback

I received a decent amount of feedback to make the playing experience smoother. Namely:

  • [x] User should press escape to defocus game window
  • [x] improve orienting items with right click
  • [x] pick up distance is too low
  • [x] crouch speed too slow
  • [x] certain software modules have empty HUD items
  • [x] right click action distance too close
  • [   ] no jump button
  • [x] controls super floaty
  • [x] limbs clip into each other when ragdolled
  • [x] doors should not be double clicks (hold click)
  • [   ] cable should detach based on pull force (like a real cable)
  • [x] Limbs roll away
  • [x] items should not collide with player

Anything with an [x] was addressed and updated into the build I released last week. The rest will all be addressed in time for the full v0.1 probably late next month (March), after some more gameplay additions.

We had a playthrough over in the discord: https://discord.com/invite/X7pxCef6QB , it was fun and there were many bugs and people flying out of the map!

Small Physics Rework

Many of the notes that I took were related to physics. People were able to break the game in some fun ways I didn't imagine. Namely, exiting the map by rotating yourself into the door that was locked. This was caused by the joint used to grab onto objects ignoring the collisions of the door:

Also picking up the robot and forcing looking down at the same time would cause the player to spazz out and explode the physics:

These bugs have since been fixed already. I had to modify puppetmaster again.

Chairs

Chairs were a fun new feature. The cool thing about them is that they update the navigation mesh of the robots so it's totally possible to block their navigation pathing by just blocking a doorway with a chair.

As for the public announcement. It will be a spiritual successor to Viva. In case you are curious, here is Viva's 2018 original public announcement.

The public announcement will include footage of some unreleased WIP features, such as emotions!

Stay tuned!
