The Onsen is complete! Before I get into the new pictures, I'd like to show some new small details that have been added to the stone path leading to the place.

The bamboo forest now has falling leaves.

To be extra performant, the particle system that spawns each falling leaf will follow the player when he is within the forest. This helped reduce the number of leaves needed to have leaves always be present in the player's view.

And now for the pool area. After looking at tons of reference images and tour videos of existing Japanese pool houses, I came up with a design that is spacious and also offers a very refreshing and natural look. Rocks are the cornerstones of beautiful looking onsens so I spent a bit of time making the rocks look good in-game.

The result came out very well. And it's highly optimized!

There are steam particles floating on the surface and an optimized water surface shader I wrote to get natural looking water movement. There is also fake depth so the water looks thick and hot temperature wise.

Near the entrance there are lampions that light up the onsen. They are also fully interactive.

The entrance has changing rooms.

The entrance tarps have cloth physics so it feels realistic passing by them. You can use your head or your hands to interact with them.

The reception building is complete as well despite not having many props inside (will provide more props next devpost). However, I have started the logic for the clerk loli. She will greet you by bowing at you in a japanese fashion and lead you into the men's changing room.

I will be showcasing this short reception mechanic next devpost. It will be very fun.

Stay tuned!
