Actual flight operations were nothing like she'd thought they'd be. It was exhilarating, certainly, but also, despite all her conditioning, terrifying. Most of her mates from the academy were dead now, and she'd only flown a single sortie. Even though she'd known that this would likely be her fate the stark reality of it had finally sunk in. Her life would be over very soon.
