When their Valkyrja were all shot down the techs knew there was nothing protecting them from the enemy. They're noncombatants, but as often as not that doesn't matter. They knew what was likely to happen, so they kept making love until the last moment. The enemy came in on scramjets and blitzed the platform, firing indiscriminately. They didn't need to kill the young women. They just did it because they were there, and it was fun. At least Mei died happy!
