the autobots lost because ratchet failed to get the kids to safety. As the sole autobot left on Earth, the safety of Jack, Miko, and Raf fell to him. because of Ratchet's over-eagerness to return to Cybertron, he didn't bring them back to base, it resulted in their catpure, and thus the Autobots ultimately lost everything.
