Home Artists Posts Import Register

Hey all,

Today I added studio support to the main website (click here) and added the controls for power users and community moderators to add information to them. This information will be exposed to the API in full once enough time has passed to fill a bit of information. I have done about 30 studios today on my own.

Latvia, France, Russia, Czech regions will have additional captcha and browser test upon registration due to abuse resulting in excessive email spam reports (AWS shut down emailing for about 48 hours until I had demonstrated that it was bots causing mayhem). Over 200 accounts were banned.

Lastly, we received a DMCA from HentaiHaven LLC (which is owned by Fakku now?) with the following information:

After receiving many emails from Google alerts for the "Hentaihaven" query, I am deeply concerned. Anime Porn is my copyright brand name and I own all the rights to use it. These websites use my brandname to sell faked products without my consent, with cloaking black hat techniques, which represents a significative risk for all of my potential customers.

Obviously, this is not true so I wrote a rude blog post about it which you can find here. I do not like being lumped in with random bullshit websites with actual intent to steal IP, so it's something I would like to fix. If you could boost the visibility of this tweet, it would go a long way:

We really should not be allowing companies to leverage DMCA requests without first ensuring that the allegations could be true. For other websites piggybacking off the name for hits and traffic I can see this being an issue, but for hentaihaven-chan? Not so much.

As far as I am aware, the art in question we use is fanart. This means they don't own it, the artist does, which invalidates the use of the DMCA request in the first place. The DMCA request is meant for original works produced: using their brand name is not an actionable item. If they register the trademark then they can C&D, however, there is no registered trademark that I can find on that name.

I guess we'll see what happens when we start ranking for the same keyword with a negative article about their reckless, misspelled DCMA requests. Fun times!

Happy No Nut November!
