How to REALLY Play Barre Chords, PLUS, Essential Chords (Patreon)
Content
Hello friends,
Thank you so much for your support this month, and for helping to make this video one of YouTube's most popular barre chord tutorials. Today I'm reaching out to those of you who are still working to perfect these important techniques, with a JPG of my Essential Chords poster. This image contains diagrams of the most common open position chords and their barred versions. A simple explanation on how to perform a perfect barre chord would include:
- Find the ideal posture for your hand, positioning your thumb at the base of the guitar neck.
- Pivot your elbow toward your body, this allows your index finger to turn slightly into the fretboard, forcing the rigid, bony area of the finger to make contact.
- Apply additional pressure to the strings by pulling back with your arms, allowing your chest to press into the back of your guitar.
- With your 1st finger straightened across your strings, make sure to arch your 2nd, 3rd, and 4th fingers, so not to mute any of the strings beneath.
- Use the tips of your 2nd, 3rd, and 4th fingers, so that the string sits just beneath your (well-trimmed) fingernails.
For more in-depth instruction, be sure to watch this tutorial in it's entirety. Thanks again for all your help and guidance, I look forward to bringing you many more lessons and learning materials in the coming days. Enjoy your progress! -Rob
