This was really interesting, Rob, especially the notion of "augmenting" a major scale. I thought that sounded very cool. I like knowing the effect of the aug chords...the notion of increased intensity. When you mentioned that the Caug in Section 3 is a substitute for the 5 chord, I think you meant the V chord in the 12 bar pattern. Is that correct? Well, another great theory lesson which always expands my thinking. As "they" say, "Your the man!"

Hey Dawn, you got it, the Augmented chord is very good in place of the regular five or V in Roman numeral. That said, it’s really a substitution in music theory terms, I should have described it as a “variation” because it’s still the five chord, just with a augmented 5th.
