Hello friends,

Over the last year our numbers have grown immensely, as we are now over 2800 strong! Since I have so many new students, I'd like to know how long each of you have been practicing the guitar? This will help me to shape my content for the coming weeks. Thanks so much!

P.S Anything else you'd like to share? I'd love to know where you're at, your favorite music, and how much practice you're getting. Thanks again!

I have always just played the main chords but thanks to your lessons I am learning how to play some intro's, licks, etc... Thank you so much. I am looking forward to learning how to do that better.

I have similar thoughts as April regarding the left and right hands. To me the left hand is the engineer, the right hand the artist (perhaps it's related to the left/right brain theory). Typically I learn the chords first, which I find doable given enough reputations over time. Knowing the chords is enough to have some fun playing along with the song so the learning ends without much attention to the strumming pattern. On to the next song. What I enjoy about your lessons is the equal attention to the fills, riffs, walk ups etc. to create an arrangement for solo guitar.

I don’t practice as often as I like, but I love your video and resources. They’re all very helpful

I started in mid 2016, first 6 months went understanding different genres and theory, wasn't regular on practice though. After that it's been pretty fine. Since I was following different genre wasn't that easy switching around. Now am focusing on Finger style and Rhythm more. Gypsy Jazz and Spanish Guitar is for next year. Thanks for your support.

Depends on what you consider practice :-) I practice in some way every day I'm not traveling. But that can mean practicing new skills, style/genres (for example blues or finger style in your world), basic theory related things in practical context (scales in lead -- for example, loved your Aimee lesson for that reason), sometimes it's learning new songs. I still think learning songs is one of the best ways to practice because you pack a lot of different things into each new song, and then you have another song in your bag of tricks to show for your work - inevitably I learn something from every new song, and if I don't .. suspiciously ... it bores me! I rarely do just drill type practice, and maybe that's why I'm not quick enough. For me it's about immediate application, especially more for writing these days. Be interested to hear how your recommend to break out practice time, Rob? For any level of player.

I started late in life! At age 54 my husband bought me a guitar for Christmas. I didn't even ask Santa for one so it was a big surprise and new challenge as I'd never, ever played a guitar. I gave myself time to build up callouses, then took lessons for a year. Since then I've been self taught by the internet, books and just plain old practice but I have miles to go! But, even though I'm still a novice, I love my guitar. It's a great stress reducer and my dog comes running and lays down near me whenever I play. 🙄 I wish I had more time and brains to get some finger picking down though. That's tough for me. Thanks for your lessons.

I have had the guitar for many years, I originally took lessons but the guy was like a very strict school teacher, had no personality what so ever, but he was very good, but got me doing lots of slides on the high E string and was ripping hell out of my fingers but he didn't care and said I was to learn what he said. So I got rid of him, then the next two didn't know the country songs I wanted to learn and said they would have to look it up on You Tube, so that didn't work, so I gave up for several years, then restarted recently with lessons, and once again learning very little from the teacher so I am using You tube etc again now and learning far more. Your site is excellent. Thank you
