Hello friends,

and welcome to a special holiday addition to my By Request Song Tutorials. In today's session I'll be showing you how to play John Lennon's 1972 classic "Happy Xmas (War is Over)." This is a fantastic song for beginner and intermediate level players to check out, because it teaches many of the common variations that can be applied to basic chords. There are just two sections and a single strumming pattern to this song, a verse and chorus section that repeats throughout the track. Let's get started!

Note: New chord sheet, tab and guitar pro have now been added to this resource.

Dear Mr Swift -- love everything you do on this site. Still no chord diagrams for Happy Xmas War is Over.

Hey Michael, thanks so much. I've just updated these resources. I've spent the last several hours staring at these pages, and am fairly confident everything is perfect. Still, let me know if you spot any mistakes. Enjoy!

This is awesome Rob- Thank You and Merry Christmas! Is it my imagination though- or do the A chord variations sound like Sammy Johns “Chevy Van”? ;)

Hey you’re very welcome Donnie! I’ll have to get back to you because I’m not familiar with that tune and I’m on an elliptical haha! Anyway, merry Christmas, and thanks for the positive feedback!
