Hello friends,

Welcome to a two-part beginner guitar lesson. In section one of this video, I'll break down how to play the 8 essential guitar chords in the open position. In section two, we'll put those chords to work as we learn three common chord progressions and strumming techniques that can be applied to thousands of different songs. Apologies for my absence over the last week, I was enjoying a family vacation, but am happy to be home in Philadelphia with my batteries charged. Expect a ton of new lessons in the coming days. Let's get started!

Great to have you back. Every hardworking musician needs a good vacay. Reinforcing the basics somehow always brings me another ah ha moment. Thanks.

Thank you Dawn! I agree, getting back to the basics is refreshing, and a great way to tie together the new information with the old. I'll have more lessons like this in the coming weeks.

Hey Rob thanks for this lesson as I just started learning acoustic guitar back in November. Looking forward to other lessons.

I reckon it is useful to practice pop strumming with a metronome in 4/4. For instance, I noticed that I am rushing 1/2 a bit.
