Please Be Happy - A Letter from the Director (Patreon)

Hey everyone, it's Adi! Your humble GUI designer and… now director?!? That's right!

Today, we finally announced Please Be Happy. Gosh! GOSH!!! It's been such a long time coming. I went through the chat logs, and the start of this project was literally March 2018! It's our oldest project in development, actually, and it's been a secret for so long mostly because of me. I hope you enjoy Miho, Aspen and Juliet's journey into discovering what happiness means to each of them.

I've always liked healing media. Stories about hope, about kindness, about the joys in life. They've calmed me and helped me cope in hard times, given me security and joy. When I became director for this project, I knew I wanted to help make something that I would've needed when I was younger. Please Be Happy is about living out an idyllic daily life and building memories in a bit of a kinder world.

It's a little self indulgent, but I wanted to make a Korean character in a western country because that's my experience growing up! It's personally been a little difficult to find media with Asian protagonists in an English speaking environment. I decided to double down on the self indulgence and set in in Fantasy Wellington, in Fantasy New Zealand! (I'm kiwi, just for some context.) 

The amount of support and love that Élan has received across the years has been so heartwarming and wonderful. I don't want to let you all down! I hope that our little game finds a spot in your heart too, as have the other games we've made, and I hope it gives you a little bit of healing and peace in these times.

Happiness is really difficult, isn't it? At least, that's how I feel. Every day, I try and search for my own happiness, and I often find it from the media I love dearly. And I hope, even if it's for a brief moment, we can give you some as well. There's no answer to happiness. But no matter which path you take while striving for it, as long as you are kind to yourself and to others, I don't think you're wrong.

This game is a sincere wish, a feeling, that I want to give to everyone. No matter who you are, where you are in life, I want to tell you…
