Kind of want to do romance sneak peeks next ...

* * *

“Where are your contacts, merc?” Marabi questions.

“I entered a minute ago same as you, my hulking friend. Allow me a minute to get my bearings and look around.” Marabi murmurs something to himself but seems to allow Thorne this much.

While he does, I walk over to Marabi and loop my arm through his before leaning in to whisper, “I’m going to use you to sell this whole blind act. Just don’t let me go, alright?” He grumbles but nods.

“Ah, and there they are,” Thorne reports, pointing to a group of people that stand in a corner closer to the bar, “it doesn’t seem like Shroud is among them, but let’s go and make ourselves known.” He leads us over, and all gazes turn to us, a few of them standing to stop us from continuing further on.

“How stupid must you be to show your face here, out of all places, Thorne?” one of the member’s question.

“I’d like to think I’m quite clever, actually,” he clears his throat and glances them over, “you know me, but I don’t know you, which makes you quite irrelevant. So how about going and getting your boss?” I see it happening before the person manages to raise their hand. They punch Thorne in the stomach with a balled-up fist, causing him to double over as he chuckles.

“I’m not your errand boy,” the person growls, grabbing Thorne’s shirt and straightening him up.

“A nicer way of just saying bitch, but sure, whatever makes you feel warmer at night.” A second punch lands in his stomach. By now, I was beginning to think he enjoyed this.

“Though I’m sure we’d all love to spend the day punching Thorne,” I state, making sure to focus on one part of the floor, “we did come here to speak with your boss. Can you retrieve him or not?” The way my head was angled, I can only make out some of the person’s face, not enough to know what he was thinking and if he was to turn his ire on me.

Thankfully, nothing more happens, and I see them take a few steps back out of my peripheral.
