"de gozaru" is an archaic version of "desu," which is the "to be" verb in Japanese. in media, they'll have characters use "de gozaru" at the end of their sentences instead of "desu" to indicate that they're samurai. (it's at the end of the sentence bc that's where you place your verb in Japanese) if you go back and watch earlier eps where kinemon and other wano characters are introduced, they use "de gozaru" fairly regularly. now that zoro has to blend in with wano citizens, he has to use it. and luffy is obsessed with acting like a samurai, so of course he's gonna say "de gozaru" bc he thinks it makes him sound cool and as others have noted, there are a thousand ways of saying "i" in japanese depending on your gender/status/etc. "sessha" just happens to be how samurai say "i" (bc it signifies humility)

Ah, yes. Episode 900. The chapter that showed us all just how sacred Ochiraku is. It’s interesting to see Luffy get so upset over Tama not being able to eat. He’s been privy to a lot of tragic circumstances amongst various societies, but it takes a lot for him to really go demon time typically. It seems like what really gets him is people who are close to him. Like the Nami stuff back in arlong park, or the way Doffy treated Bellamy. He just met Tama, but his sentiment here isn’t specifically about her, but a more general ‘a country where even children like her can’t eat.’ Guess it’s true what they say about food being the key to a man’s heart haha This was the most legendary bowl of red-bean soup in the history of media. It is truly holy, and not something ever to be fucked with. In the same way that you can be king of any country you like, but there can only be one king of the pirates
