The girl that Thorfinn remembered was the slave girl who brought him food in episode 8, Hordaland (she was Gorm's slave). Thorfinn told her about Vinland which he remembered Thors telling another slave in episode 1.

To be fair, a lot of anime fans are just young dudes who watch shonen. It’s like if someone only watched action flicks and then you sat them down and tried to show them a romance. It’s not something they can understand or get invested in 9/10 times. A lot of anime onlys watch anime for one or two things, violence/gore, fight scenes, animation or fanservice. Seinen is by nature mature, it deals with broader themes and asks, generally, pretty deep thought from the viewer, and the capability to empathize. I think a lot of people got the wrong impression from the first season about what kind of story this is tbh Then there’s heat and hus, one half empirical analyses and theorizing and one half emotional intelligence and empathy. They really are the perfect team for reacting. Nobody else out there like them. When they watched cowboy bebop way back when and weren’t constantly complaining about being bored or the episodic nature I knew them folks were built different than most reactors haha

That conversation between thorfinn and Einar, and the subsequent musical swell and crescendo when thorfinn’s eyes light up and he remembers Vinland get me emotional every time. This story has a way of hitting my feels consistently, and it only grows the more you get into it Yukimura really does some super impressive stuff with these characters. I love the way he constantly toes the line between good and evil, right and wrong, white and black. Here’s Thorfinn, a born and bred murderous pillager, who we the viewer actually feel empathy toward and the tangibility of his remorse. Or Gardar, just an unfortunate soul in the wrong place at the wrong time, right? A slave who has been abused and so we’re supposed to pity him, right? Except his home was subjugated while he was off slaughtering people, and he himself has now become such a vicious animal that even Arnheid barely recognizes him. Is he a poor soul? Or is he the storm? This is a theme we see time and again, especially in this arc. Look at Ketil. I think most people would see him and his actions and think ‘this is a good man.’ Right? Einar even says that at the start, he’ll just keep his nose down and be bought by a kind man. Ketil is empathetic, compassionate, and gentle. He doesn’t want to hurt anyone and he treats thorfinn and Einar like real people. He’s also a slaveowner, and Arnheid is basically his pet. They even call her ‘the master’s precious gift’ in this very episode. So are we supposed to worry for the well-being of Ketil’s farm, and those on it? Or be glad Canute comes to liberate it? Is Ketil good or evil? Arnheid seems to want to live here peacefully with his child. These are difficult questions which constantly make the viewer ponder morality, choice, and consequence deeply, and ones which only grow in impact and severity the further this arc goes, especially in the next few chapters…

Yea I guess I don't think about it but I should stop commenting on people complaining about this show. They are probably kids or late teens and not mature enough to appreciate the themes. Heat and hus are by far my favorite reactors and I wish them all the success in the world.
