Yea im pretty sure hes a fishman, thats why the arlong teeth are significant.

Jack is a fishman. It's never implicitly stated in the manga or the anime, but the point of breaking his mask previously was to show his teeth, plus his laying out in the water waiting for them to come get him. Like Vander Decken, his devil fruit saps his strength in water but he won't drown. Surprisingly there were people who didn't realize he was even after this scene, but a majority of people did. He's a giant grouper fishman (if you've never seen a giant grouper, should Google it lol).

Jack was able to breathe underwater because he is a fishman. It doesn’t get mentioned in the future, but his jagged teeth is similar to Arlong and Dellinger

I honestly don't know, we've passed up where I stopped watching, but if Jack is a Fishmen, that means it just got confirmed that even if a Fishmen that ate a Devil Fruit is weakened in the water, they can still at least just lay there , waiting to be saved. Didn't even think about that back when I said a Fishman eating a Devilfruit is just a straight self nerf. Damnnn eating my own words would be bitter sweet lmao.

Didnt think of it either. Back when i first saw it i just assumed it was some bs body building/haki them billion berry boys all share, like you just dont die in water when passing certain power threshold lol. The teeth didnt really tip me off since 700+ episodes in I get accustomed to all the crazy designs. Rugged teeth could just mean dudes a savage or prob loves sugar lmao. Plus like you said (but SPOILER ALERT in case i got you wrong) its never mentioned later so viewers not into anime theories prob wouldnt think of it

A lot of people say that Jack is a fishman, and I don't remember if it's stated what race does he belong to outright, and that's why I believe that he has mixed blood, similair to Delinger - part fishman, part human- but again, I might be wrong. This whole concept was introduced all the way back in Foxy arc (that's one of the reasons people shouldn't skip it), where Foxy had a part giant, part fishman on his crew, who had slippery skin and did a number on Zoro and Sanji at the time. Also, my own theory, which is only a theory and never been confirmed, is that perhaps a lot of races got intermingled back in the past. And sometimes some traces of that get passed down many generations down the line. For example, characters being insanely tall; or have long life spans for humans - perhaps some back in the past had a giant in their family tree?
