I'm pretty sure Leif found Bug Eyed "Thorfinn" on accident and adopted him and genuinely named him Thorfinn. I don't see any reason why there would be an ulterior motive. Plus I don't think they were trying to hustle Olmar. Olmar is just whack. But maybe I'm wrong idk that's just how it seemed to me.

Leif's Thorfinn said something like "Don't get your hopes up, it might be another situation like mine," when he was asking about our Thorfinn. So I'm thinking that Thorfinn is his real name and he was a slave, then Leif heard about a slave named Thorfinn that matched the description so he bought him without actually seeing him, but then found out it wasn't the right Thorfinn.

Y’all must have missed the part where he said he adopted Bug Eye Thorfinn. Ain’t no way he had a kid or found someone and named him Thorfinn lol.
