Btw in the manga Caesar was done as soon as Luffy pulled out the grizzly magnum. Dude didn't put up a fight at all, he totally bitched out. Hopefully that makes Hus feel better about his defeat lol

MojoJojoGojo

Man those guinea pigs are idiots of you're that dumb they deserved the death lol

Anonymous

The anime always drag things out lol in the manga caesar never stood a chance

The pacing on this one and the next arc is going to be tough, hope you can still enjoy it even though it's a slow burn.

Anonymous

Yeah, really hate when they drag out punches, like wtf? A punch has momentum. How the hell does it suddenly generate power after coming to a halt? Feels really unsatisfying when a punch doesn't go through all the way.

Anonymous

Agree about the punch thing. I really hate how TOEI tries to turn everything into a beam struggle.

Ayoken007

Whitebeard had a similar situation. He had times where he was overwhelming his opponents, but it needed to be drawn out to pad the episode. That's the nature of the beast when you're with a studio that puts out One Piece non stop without a break for a season.

Luffy's punches do that a lot, he's made of rubber, when kinetic energy pushes against something and then gets pushed back, it builds up more kinetic energy. Luffy's punches gets stronger the more you resist against them, he does the same thing when he activates Gear 2, slams his leg into the ground and applies pressure against his leg to build up kinetic energy, and then uses it to speed up the blood in his body.

The more important the panel the bigger the ocassion and the more emphasis the anime puts onto it, timing in animation isn't used for powerscaling its used to guide the viewer through the emotion of a scene.

Every episode was limited to 1 manga chapter of content starting from Fish-Man Island and it's still like that today, so the pacing is the same it just feels longer cause the arc is longer and there's a lot of talking in it which isn't something that can be slowed down. They do that so the anime never catches up with the manga until the manga is done. How hype or slow an episode feels just depends on how well its directed and how much time the staff puts into it.

johnel

love the attack names luffy has after the time skip. Animal themed guns, Red Hawk, Elephant gun, Grizzly Magnum.

I watched all of these arcs up to the "Z" one to catch up to OP and it really is not that bad if you binge it. I think there's really only one or two moments in the next arc that really aggravated me with the pacing.

HalfroSamurai

It's frustrating because other anime just go off air for a while and then have better pacing as a result. I'd much rather have higher quality episodes than have OP year round tbh.

joshnojoshua

wasnt that bad, he just held on for a couple seconds, luffys va was hype

joshnojoshua

luffy's VA really carrying that climax, god damn

Anonymous

I hope that if they have a hard time with the pacing next arc they can be able to tough it out, it comes along with some of the greatest moments in the series though, but damn Toei is trash lol.

Anonymous

Btw loved the Double-doubledrop! Much appreciated, between Ippo and this it's fire right now. Can't wait for this arc to close up and move on, and I definetly can't wait for you to reach Wano!

Anonymous

I am sure you have been told this already but still a heads up. The next arcs will have a very hard drop in animation and art on a regular note (The goated moments will still be awesome and you will know when they happen), this was cause Toei started work on Dragon Ball Super as you guys know. The pacing thing shouldn't be as evident if you binge but still it is poorly paced. This pacing thing will continue forever at this point however animation and art will pick up in post DBS/Broly arcs.

<3 Caesar was in this weeks one piece chapter :0 Have you guys thought about reacting to the cover stories of where you're up to in the anime? Oda uses them to resolve the stories of characters the straw hats left behind

Preet

I am glad they don't read the comments on Patreon anymore. People be talking too much on here smh.

Ayoken007

This is true, but the way the anime framed that scene gave it powerscaling. I feel there could have been a better way to convey the emotion than with a clash and power struggle.

The Pebble

One thing in One Piece writing I love is Oda's pattern of bringing back characters (or even redeeming) characters you never thought you'd see again. Number 2 from Impel Down is my favorite turn-around; He was likeable right away but he ended up being one of a handful of One Piece MVP's. (Or he's a she, whatever that legendary Okama identifies as.)

Ayoken007

Fish-Man Island also dragged some in the anime. Honestly, the studio is using an outdated model for adapting long running series where they pad the run time with extended reaction shots, repeated actions, and scenes that just feel empty and pointless. There are other ways to make an episode longer with less content that don't feel like a waste of time, and if not, they can make the series seasonal. I love One Piece, but this method just isn't good.

Anonymous

Yes man, this deflates the quality of the series so bad and makes alot of arcs less impactful for some.

FR the comment above yours is the most prime example even if its not outright spoiling what happened info like that isn't needed

Kevko

So true and annoying, do they have someone to read over or filter them? I think it‘s getting worse the further they catch up to us.

Anonymous

Idk about reading through and filtering i think they just dont read comments here which sucks bc they used to interact sm

Stephen

Ya but... they interact with youtube comments which have way more spoilers. Guess its ok since its so far behind patreon?

emerald✨️octopus

Yeah in the manga there is no struggle like that, he blows Caesar away lol if that's any consolation. I love the anime, but the padding of certain situations can give the wrong impression sometimes.
