The reason they show 7 starters is that in vball, there are 6 starters + the libero, who is allowed to sub in/out for any other player at the beginning of each play as many times as needed during a match. This unlimited sub rule for the libero is also why he has that uniquely-colored jersey: so the ref can identify that it is the libero is subbing in/out as opposed to a regular player substitution, which is limited by certain rules. Teams usually sub in the libero for their middle blocker once the middle rotates to the back row and has completed his/her service turn. Middles are generally the weakest passers/defenders on the team.

fun fact, the mangaka is a big fan of horror and has made horror manga in the past and so thats why he adds in those funny horror scenes

yeah, the mangaka wasnt even planning on getting into sports animanga lol, they were a horror author but they made a little oneshot for shounen jump, a little side thing. but it got so much attention that they decided to continue, and some things even changed in the process lol! Tsukki's personality was a bit different, for example- in the og oneshot he was still snarky, but less grumpy, he was more like cheerful/fake smiley and passive aggressive lol. lots of backhanded compliments said with an innocent face, that sort of thing
