Kinda a funfact but also sad. Okuru is a Ainu the original people of Japan. They lived up in the north and much like native american tribes in America were pushed out and lost much by the Japanese. To this day they are discriminated socially and economically. Their younger generations are loosing their peoples ways with less and less knowing their language for example. They faced many things and were only officially recognized by the Japanese government in the 90s. Only around 25,000 (according to Japan) or 200,000 (according to other sources) people left. This is why Okuru looks and dresses diffrent and why the japanese purposely burned his village they werent japanese. Ainu have lighter skin bigger frames and more sunken in European eyes with curly hair they sometimes have blue eyes iirc depending how pure their Ainu blood is. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ainu_people the article on them.
