In the manga, it showed a couple yrs aftermath of what happen .... L and Kiras death wasn't revealed to the public so it just let things playout normally. Everything in the world went back to normal...Citizens labeled it as Kira is taking a break. The last panel of the manga showed alot of people wishing and worshipping a candle in honor of Kira..many missed him. Near became the new L... And Aizawa became in charge of the task force and helped N-L on cases from then on... I like to think the task force told Light's remaining family he died catching Kira but never revealed he was Kira...I wouldn't tell the mom lol (A believable fan theory is Light reincarnated into a Shinigami)
