It's been 10 years since I remixed this song originally, and I wholeheartedly believe I wouldn't be where I am today without it, and I that would've been a much worse person if I hadn't made it.
Story/Rambling/Confession-time!
I'm ashamed to say that I made my 10 year old remix out of anger and frustration. I'd been listening to other remixes of the GSC Champion theme on YouTube and I was genuinely confused, disappointed and angry that there were versions out there with hundreds of thousands and or millions of views where the audio was constantly clipping, and every single one had the exact same arrangement quirk pointing to them all being flipped from the same midi file.
I vented to my then SO (now spouse), who, after first showing me much patience, snapped at me:
"If you think you can do better, stop talking about it and do it"
and... that's what I ended up trying to do.
So for the first and last time I funneled the anger and frustration I felt towards other artists into something creative. I was smug, and my intentions were definitely shitty, but I made something that people seemed to enjoy, and that I could be proud of, no matter the condescending attitude I had when it all started ^^;
Despite the awful start I've since learned to stop being envious of other people's success. Hearing the thoughts, ups and downs of countless people in the comment section over the years kind of just forced me to see the world differently, and I emphasize enough just how much that genuinely transformed me as a person. From an angry, judgmental, self-centered person to someone who actually tries to do some good in this world.
I realized people are mostly just doing what they love, so who am I to judge what music resonates with which people? If other people can combine their love for video games and music to make something that someone will enjoy, I think that's absolutely fantastic, and if nobody minds, I think I'll keep trying to do that too ^^
