Finally, I think I managed to fix most of the bugs, so now I can continue working on RainFX. And here’s the first new thing: rain tyres! If during loading CSP would detect any slick tyres, it would automatically add a new set of rain tyres, which would be much more efficient at moving water away from contact point, ensuring better grip. Apart from different water moving properties, at the moment it’s a simple copy of softest tyres set, but more tweaks, of course, are coming soon. 

Also, now existing tyre sets get different water moving properties as well. Slicks now count as tyres with no treads, semislicks are less efficient at moving water away, and the rest are the most efficient. Type of a tyre is guessed based on its name, and it might need more adjustments later as well, but it should work well enough with most cars already. And, of course, intermediate tyres are coming soon too.

Different normals for rain tyres are also created now, and their generation is fully procedural, in the future it should allow to not only create a lot of possible types, but also slightly alter same patterns if applied to different cars to increase visual variety. And, by the way, physical properties of a tyre depend on pattern shape as well.

At the moment, however, shape needs to be chosen via config. I already prepared a few configs for SF15-T, F138 and Tatuus, but it’s not quite how I would want it to work, instead I’ll focus on adding some sort of generic configs which could apply to all cars at once, and those would be able to estimate an appropriate pattern automatically. 

Also, speaking of bugs to fix, RainFX physics was pretty broken in previous build, but it should work better now. And, if you want to get the optimal experience, please use WeatherFX debug app with 50%/100%/50% rain debug configuration for now, that’s another thing which still needs some polishing on WeatherFX controllers side.

A couple of other changes: rain now removes windscreen dirt as it should (proper dynamic dirt is in plans, but might take more time to get it right), and now you can run online servers requiring clients to have WeatherFX and RainFX activated (more on that a bit further down).

Next thing to focus on now is to create a way to protect RainFX configs from being altered in online races, thus ensuring a fair competition, as well as continue working on visual part of it all. Also, have to take a look into AI and see if they can be tweaked to be capable to deal with rain.

How to install this preview build?

Simply extract dwrite.dll and extension folder to AC root folder, or drag’n’drop archive to CM and agree to install it from there.

How to get rain physics to work offline?

With newer Content Manager version, please activate this option here, and it would add a new checkbox here. Please be extra careful with it though, as it would alter car’s data before each race and in rare circumstances, it might fail to roll the changes back once race ends. We’re still trying to figure out the best way to have rain physics applied to all cars.

How to run an online server with rain?

New Content Manager versions got an option to set a CSP config for servers here. Use it and add this section there. 

(The way it works, it would encode that config within server’s welcome message in such a way that it wouldn’t be visible in both original Assetto Corsa and Assetto Corsa with CSP installed. You don’t need to run server from Content Manager, you can also have welcome message prepared for one server config and reuse it on any other.)

Im not sure to understand everything, Ok i have the rain tyres for the SF15 by example but i do not have the rain tyres skin as you have on your picture. Is it WIP or just a skin that you have download ? Thanks mate for your amazing job ;)

Great work! But if I understand correctly... Online Rain is still always rain no matter what weather configuration is used? Because if we need rain on practice only but not on Qualy, that is not possible right?... Why not add chat commands for Admin user?? To activate or deactivate Rain?

With the 2 latest release, I have again a problem that I had with a past release (0.1.70). I see, especially on replay, the images that are not smooth. It's not easy to explain but I don't have a fluid video, even if the FPS are good. All seems to be stuttering, even if imperceptible. With 0.1.72-preview1 is ok.

Really appreciate your efforts. One feature I'd like to see supported in VR is "Use screen drops"; I know this works in 2D but in VR it would look like rain is hitting your visor - it looked stunning in Project Cars. Don't know how easy this would be to implement?

Just had a few runs with both Tatuus and SF15 - are working for me. SF70 gives me wets but no tex/normals. 👏 Never mind, got it. :) Found this little issue just now, when ever a session is restarded, or back to pits, the texture on the wets go away. :)

Hi Ilja, one question to the server_cfg_csp.ini. It contains only the parameter INTENSITY, what is the WETNESS and WATER. Can i use it and/or what is the name in the server_cfg_csp ?

Hi Ilja: since v1.72/1.73p my emissice clock digits are way less emissive. Also the new patch version didn't fix it. hi llja: im having a hard time getting the csp updated to 1.74. i have downloaded the file using 7-zip and drag and dropped extension into the new cm and installed 8 items but when i go into csp it shows that im still on 0.1.73- preview1. what am i doing wrong and how can i fix it?? thank you!!!!

Anybody had Monza, Silverstone, Spa, Zandvoort and Barcelona gone missing from the track selection in CM? The files are still in the folders.

just download the file drag the zip into content manager and install it over existing files and it will autmaticly set it to new version (to show it also on the right side correctly u might need to restart cm atleast i need to do it then u see it changed to lateest version) hope this helps!

Hi Ilja. Thenks for the guide how to set car and track physics with rain in CM. I tried few laps at Monza on a Ferrari 488 GT3 and yesss... they work fantastic. I had to enter at the pit to change tyres to rain type, it was impossible to drive with sliks...:-)

I try the rain physics and they are at best mediocre I understand its a pre-release physic mod but when you drive any open wheel cars in rain its absolutely uncontrollable...

On the server in "Allowed tyres" I can't see rain tyres and I can't use it on the server..... someone have the same problem? In the welcome file I have always "For testing, rain is active with intensity 100%."

I got this installed and it rains fine and looks amazing running off the cars, but I cannot get any puddles to accumulate on the ground at all even with weather fx debug set at 100%/100%/100%. Any ideas?

Because it's not, you can only manually add it as it's preview. It only says next to it when it is active so that's correct.

I am having issues on all recent preview builds, I am still on preview 170 for a stable experience. Running open vr I get flickering mountains on la canyons and with this latest preview the road is blurry, am I missing a setting here as I can't find anyone mentioning the same issue?

Hi I've noticed that motion blur in ectrafx seems worse with this preview compared to 169 that i was running. Anyone else noticed this at all?

It needs to be raining, and you need to follow the directions where he has the box ticked under Drive in CM settings to enable extended physics. Then when you select the car on the drive screen, there's going to be a box under the one for car specific controls that enables the extended physics. otherwise they don't show up. Also, as he said, the textures for the tires don't work with all cars. Granted I haven't check any other cars other than the 1991 McLaren MP4/6 from ASR yet. It could also be because IDK how to "make" them in the config(?) settings.

Hey Ilja. Awesome but the new splashing rain effect on the ground doesnt hit the windscreen in VR. These Rain Drops are inside the car and flying through the windscreen. Do you know what i mean. Would be Great if you could fix this soon. Many thanks for your effort

I'm using openvr too, I found that if I enable 'sol to use CPU split' in sol config I get flickering backgrounds on some tracks. Have also had to reinstall sol a couple of times over the recent updates of it and csp... install new csp patch then reinstall sol, solves myriad issues

Hi ilaj Nice job As usual ! i have a question i'm not sure if it's a bug or settings related but ive noticed when driving on a speficic track grass Fx flicks alot, the grass is on and off it sudently dissapears while driving in cockpit view ( vr or single screen replay cockpit view follow cam tv cam ) , and would appear again always dissapear at the same part of the track on tv cam it just flicks super fast .. but if i pause the replay where the grass disspears and use f5 or f7 camera the grass show's up only at a certan angle and distance , . not sure whats going on but it dod not happen before anything i can do on my side ? Thank you

I remember one version of CSP (can't recall which) after race in raing, when we changed the weather to a dry one or turn off rain the remaining rain drops around the car was dissipated while you drive. Is this gone for now or am I missing something?

Hello IIja, there is no sound of rain also wipers not only in this build. The last 10 atleast for me no sound at all. Also on some cars the turnsignal lights/hazzard light signals seems to not working. If i rollback to oldest csp its working again. Tnx, anyway amazing job, keep going.

To debug this, use SPA as a starting point. Change weather to rain in the Drive tab of Content Manager and enter the track. If you still can't see puddles, open Weather FX app in the right side menu (while on track) and find Debug Rain (or something like that) and change the sliders, one of them is the wetness of the track. I'm writing this from the top of my head so I may missed something. If nothing works consider re installing it (CSP) by dragging the zip file into the interface of Content Manager and then use "clean old files" when you are about to install it.

Ilja, finally was able to test during the weekend and send you a proper feedback. The 50/100/50 combo might still be very slippery for the wets. I can't get past 70% on throttle with the SF70H. Could somebody tell me how can i set a Gear change / Shifting indicator light in CSP? There are some Kunos cars has the shifting light on the Dashboard but not working like Toyota celica St185 or Audi Quattro S1... I didn't find any tutorial or sample data yet. Something like these lines which i can write into digital_instruments.ini: [LED_6] OBJECT_NAME=GEO_dashboard_light RPM_SWITCH=7000 EMISSIVE=3,2,0,0 DIFFUSE=0.5 BLINK_SWITCH=9000 BLINK_HZ=15 It would be a very useful feature in CSP, because if i write a new data.acd, then online multiplayer feature has been disabled Thanks

WHen setting up the server with CM: 1) CM/SERVER/MAIN/Welcome Message: paste this code (you can alter the rain % of course): "For testing, rain is active with intensity 40%." 1) CM/SERVER/CONDITIONS/Weather Make sure you choose a reasonable rainy weather here I too have struggled some time to get this to work properly. With help on the CSP discord I have received those tips above and it works flawlessly.

I have seen so far only these issues with teh latest rainFX CSP patch version: - extreeeeemly long loading times of cars (this used to be very fast but is extremely slow again) - when entering a rain session and then changing the weather to a dry weather typ a layer of rain droplets will remain on all glass surfaces. This layer cannot be wiped away by the windscreen wipers and it will not dry off (major issue) - on cars with broken headlights (due to a crash) raindrops in front of broken headlights will still render diffuse from the nonexistent headlight - worse the seem to magically re-enable the broken headlight for the duration of their passing in front of the broken headlight - large drops falling off the car of being spread when driving through puddles look still a little bit over done / comical (too large, artificial looking drops) Other than that it looks pretty phenomenal.

I would like to know if in the future this new version that allows the physical and graphic use of rain tires, will also be usable with the mod add, as some of these are already implemented with this addition (for example the Porsche 911 RSR GT3 2018 by URD ).

surely there are some things to improve such as the dynamic weather which does not load the variations correctly. I have found that if I start in clear weather and change in rainy weather, everything changes in the right way except the spray that does not appear. If I start the race in rainy weather when the sky clears up and the asphalt dries, the spray remains visible. This happens both with manual variations and with a plane set by default. I also report the loading of wrong textures on some mod add cars.

You can install it through CM (drag & drop the zip file). Once loaded in CM you have to restart CM to see 1.74 preview selected (I think it works even without restart but you will not see it)

Hi Iljia. I can´t use Patreon versions of the patch as they keep crashing game sessions. I get "Game Crashed - GPU Failed; might be overclocked too much, or overheated" message along with others. I have screenshots. It would be lovely to be able to use rain but I can only use non Rain FX versions of CSP, even the latest 1.73 from CM works. I've been having the crashes since 1.72 with Rain FX. Could you help please? Any reports you need please ask. PS: I've completely uninstaled and re-instaled CM and AC and after a clean install the same happens

Is there a fix for "Can't install twice" and 1.74 not showing on the list? I have both of these issues and have restarted several times.. same issue. At one point I thought I saw 1.74 as the active but then it immediately went to 1.70... then 1.73 lol... I'm so confused. I have auto update OFF.

Still impossible to have working wipers ! It works in no cars at all. I try many many things without succes. So i can only use RainFx with Formula cars but with windscreen, it is just impossible to drive with !

Works perfect offline, but when I run my server I can only get the rain to work visually. It doesnt change the physics/grip online, but same car/track in single player works as it should. Is there any way to make it work on my server?

Just manual install it, make sure you unlock update/patch and then manual install in AC folder!

As the wiper doesn't works, i try to re-install AC frop scrach. So i just install a fresh AC version, then CM, and CSP 1.74 and Sol 2.0.2 : Still doesn't works on any car ! Is it works for someone (then it means that something is missing) ?

Have you bound controls to operate the wipers? Also, check in SOL Plan selector app (in game) as there are auto/manual wiper options.

I have problems with preview versions that include rain. With 1.73 preview (or whatever preview version) when i activate the rain the screen turns black with onboard cameras but with track and free camera i can see the game. WHen it's time past 21:40 more or less the car and lights crash and looks so bad. Maybe is some option that I have activated or not? I don't know what more to do. I can't play with rain, can't take screenshoots in movement pf

I ran some tests with this new rain mode. I found that the grip conditions of the asphalt do not change between dry and wet. Is it I who have not activated any options or do we still have to wait for the development? I also point out that all the graphic effects of the rain, except the spry (smoke) are not seen from the rearview mirrors, both in real and virtual mode. As a motorcyclist who occasionally rides a motorcycle in the rain, I believe that the drops of water on the visor of the helmet in the first person of the open cars must be resized. In any case, congratulations on the big job you are doing. Keep it up, perfection is close.

New to discord. Could someone please explain how to load preview builds. I can download regular builds but cannot load preview builds. I tried putting the preview in Mods section with no results.

preview builds are basically drag and drop into Content Manager. Discord has nothing to do with it.

Thanks for the help. Now I have bigger problems. CSP & SOL were working perfectly. Now the only way AC works is to remove CSP. No version of CSP works. Do you know where I can post error logs?

To activate rain tyres you need to activate the button "USE EXTENDED PHYSICS (EXPERIMENTAL) , it's locate in DRIVE page of ACM.
