I create a lot of surveys and listen to player feedback on the things they like, want to see, and things they would not like etc.

Tailor Tales is still an on-going game, and technically could go on indefinitely by adding more stories. Everything is still on track ;)

But I also want to work on other games in the future (obviously romance included, duh!), and that's where all the surveys were for. Previously, I asked which idea was more interesting for players. There were two main concepts; a dating sim, and a merchant one. The dating sim was favoured more.

When asked about customization, the comments were all opposed to customizing the LI so thoroughly, though the survey itself showed the majority were actually interested in it. The comments left good points; people want to fall in love with established characters. I agree, it's much more fun to get to know a character. That doesn't mean it isn't fun to customize one either! Being able to influence an LI has its own merits, but perhaps not to the extend of literally creating one from the ground up.

So the idea of my dating sim started to seem a little less appealing to create. Going on a fake dating app and then asking people out for dates - a very casual sort of game, is still a fun idea. But on the other hand; it's not very strong story-wise. People seem to enjoy the stories I make, so that's something I do want to keep!

The original idea for Tailor Tales allowed you to walk in an overworld in a small town. Talk to NPCs and woo one of five bachelors. You were able to gather resources and create clothes with them, which you'd then sell for money.

I'm really interested in going back to this idea! The reason I changed it to a visual novel, was because I was unable to create a cohesive and romantic story whilst still allowing the player freedom to move around. Currently, I have numerous ideas on how to fix this initial problem. So I'd love to revisit this for my next game.

And of course - there will be loads of customization options for the player character. You can create whoever you want, from looks, to gender, to selecting each line of dialogue you want to say to NPCs. You get to play the game.

Oh, and female LIs will also be available. Don't think I'm ignoring you, my thirsty bi and pan fans. The next game you should be able to date any gender!

Of course, this is all still just early stages of creating a concept. Lots can change in the future. But I definitely want the player to be able to interact with NPCs, romance them, and have a relaxing experience.

I'm going to have to learn 3D.

Anyone who is a fan of Harvest Moon/Stardew Valley/Animal Crossing, maybe even Fire Emblem, let me know in the comments what it is that draws you to these games. Things you wish it had or didn't etc.

This is an old post, and I'm sorry for commenting, but - a while ago I remember watching youtube videos of Gray from harvest moon and the MC, like the youtuber put it together and made it a story, and they were working on a farming based game where you could make clothes and have romance options. Was this you? I think about them all the time!

I made a small animation called Pretty Ore, which was about Gray and Claire. That eventually morphed into Tailor Tales :)

Celianna I just wanna say that if you weren’t such an amazing creator I wouldn’t be so thirsty for more 😩 so exciting!!

For Stardew Valley I enjoy the building up from next to nothing aspect, as well as getting to know the villagers and taking part in community events. I just wish the models & art were cuter. Also the romance was kinda shallow? Wish the LI characters were more involved in the main story too, kinda like Rune Factory. For Fire Emblem I love the characters, combat and storyline. I dislike the number of MU options for S support though, since it means less content overall. Didn’t enjoy all the child units or s support between non-MU characters in fates either, though them becoming established characters and not just a model that crawls around your house was nice, looking at you Stardew lol

I agree with the above comment about SDV, I absolutely love the crafting, resource gathering, and progression from almost nothing, but the romance aspect to the game was awfully lacking. I will say the resource gathering can get extremely tedious and kinda un-fun at times, but if there was a balance of gathering and LI conversations/events/moments or anything then it may make it less boring.

I LOVE these kinds of games! I enjoy the crafting, gathering, building up something from scratch, etc. In the romance department, what really makes me stick to the game is if the storyline and characters feel real - I could know these people in real life (if this were a real universe). I see their characters develop as I get to know them, and they don't feel like copy-paste people with different looks. I think Stardew and RuneFactory did pretty well in this department, most of the time. One extra note: what usually bothers me about these games (and I find where many do not do well), is that once the character gets married, the love interest (now spouse) usually turns into a robot. Whatever individuality they had before disappears, they don't visit about the town or engage in their previous interests, and turn very very flat in character. It makes you feel guilty to marry them, like you've snatched them away from their entire life to only be your stay-at-home picturesque 50s housewife. Stardew was particularly bad with this.

bi rep ftw I haven't played the games you've mentioned but I've wanted to. Fire Emblem and Stardew Valley, especially.

I Loved Animal Crossing and Harvest moon for the exploration and building the relationships with the characters. Beyond some being physically attractive, I liked how it felt like we became friends and then an event or line recontextualized the relationship into something more romantic. Not so much a slow burn, but also not 100% horny from the start (I like earning those steamy rewards)

If you are going to add more routes to tailor tales that would be awesome!! I whole heartedly adore Nornus and I think it would be interesting to have him be a datable character added to the game.

2023-06-04 12:56:09 I played stardew valley, and I for me being able to do whatever I want (fishing, fighting, socializing, mining, crafting, etc) and still measure progress in each of this items is what makes it interesting for me. I would love to see a Tailor tales RPG <3
