I feel like comparing Shanks to Gildarts isn’t disrespectful at all. Other then the obvious design similarities, they are both presented as powerful figures in their world/guild who the MC wants to surpass. If you really wanted to get into it, Gildarts has displayed power beyond what Shanks has done in the series so far.

@Wolf how was Gray never that guy, he's around the same power level as Natsu in his base form and has beaten people that Natsu fought but didn't beat i.e. Lyon and Fukuro.

Shanks use of power throughout the series has been more vague until recently. He’s been living off hype for the most part (not too say he’s a fraud). He may very well end up being stronger then Gildarts but he just hasn’t put it on display as much in comparison.

I believe there a mix of both. While gajeel it’s meant to be his vegeta like the saiyain that starts evil and join later. Both being the same race/wizard. Grey was meant to be his sasuke.

Definitely one of my favorite Erza fights but my all time favorite isn’t until a bit later… but anyway I’m looking forward to seeing your reactions to the rest of this arc.

Something interesting that I didn’t notice until now. Erza has been split up from the rest of the main team for this entire arc. Like even before the trial started she actually hasn’t even see any of them once. Legit a pretty good way to show what an S-Class Wizard should be capable of on their own how they make decisions in battle and then to compare and contrast it with Natsu’s and Gray’s actions throughout the arc.

Y’all should do the Erza vs zoro death battle so that y’all can see the powerscaling between both series, actually nvm, that death battle accounts for end of story erza so there will be spoilers for y’all.

A lot of people hated that fight. They claimed Erza won with the power of friendship completely ignoring the fact that Azuma, basically, gave her the power to defeat him. Hey, but no one said you have to be the strongest to win a fight. She didn't give up, didn't panic, saw an opportunity and seized it. He didn't expect any of that, was out of magic power, and so he lost, that's it.

Tenrou Island arc is a bit like what Marineford was in One Piece. This arc is supposed to set the stage for what's to come later in the story. Don't get me wrong though, Tenrou Island is nowhere near Marineford, it's just that a lot of information gets dropped and new important characters are introduced.

It’s really unfortunate that Gray’s ultimate move is basically a self-destruct. He’s one of the only non-dragon slayers in the guild that has an ultimate attack (and he’s had it from the get-go) but he can’t ever use it to show how powerful he actually is since it would kill him.

I don't even know if I would call it power. It's more hax than anything. Gray is able to freeze fire. That's no small feat. Not to mention his mind his creativity and attention to detail in everything he does. He's underated and these guys don't see the value

You find Gray's dub voice annoying huh? Gray's Japanese voice actor is Yuichi Nakamura. He also voices Gojo Satoru from JJK😏. Too bad I guess.

I really wish they'd switch to sub -- the japanese version is sooo much better. it literally took me years to even tolerate the dub plus the fact that my sister only ever watched it in dub without headphones...

I know they probably won't but I hope they watch the filler arc that happens right after this arc. I thought that arc was fun and I feel like it really fits in with the story (didn't even know it was a filler when I watched it). But it might be to silly at times for them during some parts so idk.

Yeah, the problem is that they’ve always talking over all of these things. When he froze fire, they were talking over it. When he explained his plan to follow Simon and find Erza, they talked over it. I can only hope the Ultear fight breaks this annoying pattern.

I'm lost If they skip the next arc.. isn't that the GMG? Or am I misremembering. Because they NEED to watch the GMG cause it not only is epic but ties directly into the main story with the dragon slayer stuff

The arc that is being referred to in regards to that is the Key of the Starry Heaven’s arc. (It always gets brought up due to the Zentopia stuff and certain character’s roles in the arc being referenced in the manga). Obviously no one is asking them to skip GMG.
