The way loans work in soccer: If a team has a player with a lot of talent but they already have a starter in that position and they don’t want to trade/sell him to another team for money, they can loan him to another club where they can get regular minutes and be a starter rather than being on the bench most games in their current situation. At the end of a loan the team that owns the contract and the team that got the loaned player then can reopen negotiations on if they want to buy/sell. Honestly a dope concept that the NBA would benefit from lol

Some loan deals in football do require the loaned player to play if it’s a lesser team. If the said player is not playing loan is terminated even missing a game barring injury. The parent team has that contractual clause to recall the player.
