They both definitely need to work on their communication but Jim definitely started the issues in their marriage by hiding things from her about the job. Jim told her at the beginning about the job but Pam basically told him not to pursue it and despite that he went behind her back to still try and pursue his dream. At first Pam was just accepting this behavior from him but even she has a threshold for how much she can tolerate from Jim not asking for her input in regards to certain major situations.
