Jellal's transformation under Zeref's influence was intense. Did it add to the drama or felt overplayed? Let us know in the how you feel about it.

Definitely intense. And I’ll explain why. It’s because of how it parallels with what was happening with Erza and Grandpa Rob. Erza and Jellal (and all the kids really) were at their lowest point. You know, the darkest hour. If you’ve ever been in that place before, you know how dark and scary it can be. You WILL cling to whatever it is you can. Whether it be a positive or a negative influence. For Erza, of course Rob’s speech allowed her to find her inner resolve and faith. She was able to keep holding onto that and it helped her grow in a positive direction. In comparison, the only thing Jellal had to cling onto were Zeref’s words. “There is no freedom in this world. True freedom lies with me.” This was obviously a negative influence, but regardless it was all he had to keep on going. He also was able to grow and become strong because of it, but in a negative direction. It’s honestly a really good depiction of how this stuff actually happens. Two people who go through the same experiences finding salvation through one specific thing. Sometimes, it repairs their spirit. Other times, it destroys it. But it’s what gave them life, so they’ll cling to it desperately with everything they have.

Even with that scene I just never liked Jellal and couldn’t forgive him.
