This episode is what some of us like to call “Heavy Subject Matter”. For the sake of clarification: Weather was originally born as "Domenico Pucci" to the wealthy Pucci family, he’s the slightly younger one of fraternal twins, while the older twin is Enrico Pucci (which is of Italian/Sicilian descent cause of the first name), He later lived the rest of his life as Wes Bluemarine. The baby that was switched by the mother who died was assumed to be their son, and they gave him the name Dominico Pucci as he was buried, who is actually now Wes. Wellz: “Pucci is obviously black” well… not quite. It’s worth mentioning that many people assumed and continue to believe Pucci is black due to the dark skin of both him and his father, The racist private investigator mentioning said father thinking it was the same biological father (when it was actually the father of the baby that died with that mother who switched the babies) and a possible urge to have a black villain as if it’s never been done before, while in truth despite that ignoring his first name as the Heritage history behind it, as well as them even mentioning that “his paternal grandmother was an Italian immigrant” @3:48 A.k.a. Sicilian as dark skinned Italian. I’ve gotta say like many other episodes, this season/part’s dub was significantly better for better dialogue mentioning his first name more than once or twice and even mentioned the clan, which was as clear as they can get without showing the robes or straight up mentioning the KKK. Here’s how it was in the manga https://twitter.com/chocolate_lem/status/1388367138776358914?s=61&t=1VigzxkX26iJZItobY59WA anywhere else it was before was deleted, so this is all where I could find it.

racism is bad yes stop talking over the great scenes lmao

IShipRalphAndAdum

I love that Araki wasn't afraid of going there. America has a dark history with racism that still affects us.

Seal

I don’t mind them talking over it so much as I do when they are distracted by each other enough to look away, especially Pat as probably his true greatest flaw, aside and opposed from wanting characters to die.

This backstory is so Shakespearean with how tragically real it is: Religion, explicit Racism, incest, a Sin blurring the line of what’s right and what’s wrong with the narrator going as far as to ask us the audience to be like a jury in asking who committed a sin/crime, and even suicide. Obviously, the mother and I would say especially DIO that wasn’t mentioned is to blame for corrupting Pucci’s mind and decision making. David productions knocked it out of the park since unlike all other episodes, this one was 3 chapters like a normal anime episode to flow better, not to mention you know it’s a special one when they don’t even play the opening. I always knew Araki was capable of writing this level of story since back in part 2 with Elizabeth, a.k.a., Lisa Lisa’s backstory, and especially with the last part but I never expected it to be this intricately, detailed and realistic as if it’s from a completely different anime but still having that bizarre twist. The most bizarre thing about all this is DIO, who’s name in Italian means God, is playing the role of the tempting Devil misguiding Pucci as a religious man, really brings true depth and meaning to the meme “You thought it was (insert anything here such as Devil) but it was I DIO!”

Foha

I think Pucci isn't black simply by the fact that that would make his sister also black, and the whole reason the KKK beat up Wes was that they thought he was a white-passing black boy that dared to date a white girl. They must have investigated Perla too and come to the conclusion that she was white instead of bi-racial like they presumed Wes to be without knowing he was adopted. Being that Pucci and Wes as her biological brothers, they would also be “white” or at least not of close African descent. Pucci is probably just a dark-skinned Italian the same way some of the part 5 characters were.

Foha

It's easy for so many people to say Pucci should just quit being part of the clergy when it's not something they want for themself and they don't consider how big of a sin it would be for him to share secrets from a confession. What he did was naive, not investigating the PI, but we also have to remember that he was only 16 and had no one else to turn to. However, he should have gotten therapy afterward and tried to heal from his trauma, but instead, he refused to accept the facts or take on any accountability for his own actions. Hence, he becomes the evil he is and goes on to do real unforgivable deeds.

Cruse Thomas

nah yall missing the point pucci went to that guy because he was a professional in the town and it said that it was legal by law at that point in history it was kkk that's why when guy did that

Seal

If you feel this way, why are you even here? you’re objectively wrong anyways. If anything, it’s underrated.

Didn’t You Call One Piece Overrated Hypocrisy at it’s finest Why are you in the One Piece Chat 🧐

Sanji

Your girls top is too

Haws You t

😳😂😂

Seal

Please show me where anyone here is comparing JoJos to another series as being a real justification for you to call it “overrated”, cause that’s what I was doing as merely defending other series since one piece fanatics/fanboys was putting down other series which is why I got involved. “Hypocrisy yet it’s finest“ try again.

Saying One Piece is the Best Anime/Manga is not Putting Down other Series

Haws You t

Define Putting Down. Why can’t people call out flaws in certain Anime/Manga

Seal

When that’s objectively false as 1. It’s manga has terrible paneling 2. The anime’s lack of a proper production quality, even now with it’s pacing slower than a snail stretched to the moon and back just like Luffy 3. Reaction shots + panning to fill the episodes runtime 4. excessive goofiness as even during serious moments trying to make realism cartoonish 5. Lack of enough meaningful characters deaths 6. Lack of a proper dub 7. Lack pop cultural influence 8. Characters anatomies being extremely unrealistic even for a fictional series 9. Absolute worst repetition out of any long running series 10. And just as much, if not more sexual fan service than any other series? Yeah ok sure cause that makes perfect sense, as if that’s not the definition of overrated. There’s your list of flaws in one piece. If I were you, I would go back to that comment thread, and see exactly who I responded to first as looking at the time.

Seal

I have been reading/watching one piece since the mid-to late 2000s ever since it came to America, I don’t have anything personal against the series as much as I do against the fandom itself that thinks it’s “peak fiction” or as you put it “the best anime/manga” and/or “the greatest story ever told”. I don’t have time for lying or trolling. Those are the facts as well as that list. Now elaborate to me, which “pedophile” series are you speaking of?

Yeah you have to be trolling atp…. Jotaro is 17 there while Ann is only a few years younger, not to mention he had 0 sexual interest, and this was just a part of his assertive No BS nature.
