They showed that flashback of Shirou in the rubble surrounded by fire cause he's contempt with just surviving that ordeal and being alive so he doesn't need much else. Even if he does things that's for someone else's benefit he's just grateful he can be alive to do things.

The problem with that though is he alive and not taking advantage of being alive but going through the motions. If you got a second chance at life you would just go with the flow you would make something of it

@LaudyMadeCam for Shirou him making other people happy is his way of making something of his life. He thinks him surviving was already more than he can wish for so he's satisfied trying to make others happy. He doesn't have one thing outside of his own life that he wants so he's pretty much just empty.
