Caster actually got what he wished for. He was waiting for divine punishment for his atrocities his entire life just to prove that god existed. Jeanne was a pure soul in life but was killed in a horrible way. So caster began questioning god and his existence if he let someone like Jeanne die. Thus began his serial killer journey, committing atrocities as a 'test' to which he finally got his divine punishment this episode in the form of excalibur. As fked up as it is, the two serial killers got a cathartic ending - ryuunosuke finding his own guts and caster finally able to rest knowing god does indeed exist and had a reason for letting Jeanne die.

Theres a lot of reading in between the lines in this show and I think yall missed some of it. Gilgamesh likes treasures, and he views saber as one in human form. Shes a fool for carrying an impossible burden, but a rare one, and is therefore more valuable than the wisdom of the masses. Kirei had the chance to mercy kill kariya. He did the opposite. He seeks pleasure/joy. Think about it.
