Basically they showed us that when a devil fruit user dies, the power jumps to another fruit nearby Another cool fact about Smiley; Besides their insane regeneration ability, Axolotl's don't mature in nature. Only through a man made chemical do they undergo a maturing process (something like that), and that's basically what Caesar did here. He was lowkey genius for combining that DF with his toxic slime. Smiley was made using the same method as Mr. 4's gundog and Spandam's elephant sword. Also idk why but I love Mocha. She's kind of a young flagbearer for Haki in the series. She demonstrates crazy willpower and is practically a giant. She's gonna be a problem in the future of this world lol. Even Brownbeard shows haki/willpower in action; he was trash when he was just a pirate, but we seen him surviving hella shit now, probably because he wants to save his crew.

This is not addressed in the series proper but Smley was created by Ceasar condensing the poison gas from the bomb and using Vegapunks method of having objects "Eating" a Devil Fruit which created the monster known as "Smiley" eater of the Sara Sara no Mi, Model: Axolotl. So when Smiley died from eating the candy his fruit reappeared from the apple. There can only be one fruit of each kind in the world at the same time.
