The reason we say this isn't dragonball z rob is not because they dont get angry and have rage moments every show has dragonball z didnt invent emotions its because hunter x hunter gives its characters depth when was the last time u cared about frieza or cells emotions or see them actually do anything besides be bad just to be a bad guy meruem is levels upon levels greater than anything dragon ball z could offer

The difference between HxH and DBZ type anime is the world building... DBZ has random asspull power ups with no valid explanations and "They got mad so they are suddenly strong enough to beat the bad guy with no consequences" doesn't exist in HxH. There's rage to be sure but it's not the same thing! Rob is looking at this all from the surface! HxH setup a complete power system them spent 2 whole arc's teaching us(the audience) how this system works... So everything that happens when the action starts fall within the power system as it was set up. DBZ didn't do this... the ideas in that show came as they were needed to move the plot. Gohan got mad and super rage powers because the plot. There were no drawbacks he's just stronger now... Same with Goku... he got mad so ssj! No drawbacks he's just 50 times better now... In HxH characters can get mad and try harder but no one is getting permanitally stronger because they were angry... Even Kurapika whose power is 100% born from rage only got strong by following the rules of the power system... He has conditions to his power and we've seen with several characters how insane these powers can get with the right restrictions and conditions. Kite: Crazy Slot! Has 9 powerful weapons but can't choose which one to use... has to play the slot and must use the weapon in combat before he can roll again Kurapika: Chain Jail! Can only be used on the Phantom Troupe and if he breaks this rule he dies! Leol: Rental Pod! Can borrow any ability for an hour. Must know the name of the ability or see it being used, Must do the owner of the ability a favor then confirm with them that they'll owe him after he completes the favor. Chrollo Lucifer: Skill Hunter! Can steal any nen ability that can be activated with one hand! Must see the ability with his own eyes, Must ask about the ability and have his question answered, They have to touch his book with their hand, and it all has to be done in under and hour. there's more but I digress... This isn't the same as DBZ because rage or getting mad wouldn't help any of these nen users to use abilities as broken or powerful as they do... We've even been told that getting a good night's sleep and eating right can affect nen! Frieza and Cell got beat because somebody got mad... That's not a thing in HxH! lol If you made it to the end you get a cookie!

Pretty sure Gon knew what was up, when Knuckle punched Youpi they literally show a panel of him and the others saying "they're alive!" He's definitely ready to rage and fight but I think for that moment it's more so his focus for this mission is on another level. These episodes are where the show started turning from amazing to a masterpiece, yall aint ready for what's next.

Also, while I agree that HXH is vastly superior to DBZ however ya'll disrespecting DBZ too much. It is the Grandfather/Origin of all morden Shonen anime. Just imagine before DBZ there literally didn't exist a main character that could 'get stronger' as the story progress. Without it we would not have anime such as Naruto, MHA, OP and so on...

Meruem has changed so much that not only is he able to calm himself down and prioritize Komugi's life instead of raging, but he is also able to show gratitude to her attackers (bc he knows they could have continued attacking if they wanted) by sparing their lives as he walks past them

As a person who started this show with this arc, I must say that from here on out, I sided with the ants. I think this arc's greatest strength is it's story telling and the tension it builds is TOP tier. Can't wait for the pay off w/you guys!
