I don't think this was out of nowhere given everything that has happened so far and how much she always talks about her mother. She grew up too fast and I don't think she ever properly dealt with this loss. Throw Fire Nation, Zuko, and her mother's murderer into the mix, and she was bound to eventually blow up.
