Hey guys,

I recorded some more of AoT episodes this weekend, following your advice I recorded three episodes in a row (4x19-21) so episodes up until 21 are now in the folder! I most definitely need some explanation haha, that story of Ymir confused me a little bit and at this point I literally have no idea what Eren is up to, lol

Hope you're having a good weekend, much love,

Ola

The very first episode of this show is called "To you, 2000 years in the future". Episode 4x21 is called "From you, 2000 years ago". In this episode we finally get to see Ymir's tragic backstory. The way I see it, Ymir was neither an Eldian not a Marleyan, but something else. (The show tricks us with its narrow view into believing that only these 2 factions exists, but the actual world is way more diverse.) She was made a slave by the Marleyan army and held captive for many years until 13 hands pointed at her (13 of course referencing the 13 years of the "curse of Ymir") and the king set her "free" to be hunted down by his soldiers. During this hunt we can see her looking at a daisy with 9 petals (another clear reference to the 9 titans) with one petal covered in blood. After falling into a tree (representing The Tree of Life, Yggdrasil, in norse mythology) she gets in touch with a mysterious creature (the design of this creature is inspired by the real life hallucigenia, you can see the thing walking in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5LMG0fEBb8) and Ymir becomes the first Titan. (Just like Ymir is the first Frost Giant in Norse mythology.) It is unclear why Ymir does not rebel against the first King Fritz, she seems to have a very submissive, almost child-like personality but in any case she continues to do his bidding even after death. We know that time in the coordinate travels differently as years there correspond to an instant in real life. So who knows what insurmountable amount of time she had to endure before Eren finally set her free. The scene with Maria, Rose and Sina eating Ymir's body was foreshadowed in the end-credits of season 2 along with many other events, including the rumbling. The main soundtrack in this episode is called "Footsteps of Doom" and you can hear it, together with some of the incredible but disturbing imagery from this episode, in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJl_fn_skOM It really gives an end of the world vibe since that is what we are witnessing at the moment. In episode 4x20 we got a call back to the time 10 year old Eren killed Mikasa's kidnappers in order to keep her safe. We end the episode with 19 year old Eren ready to kill the whole world in order to guarantee her continued safety once he is gone in a few years. As Adrian mentioned, this is referenced in the end-credits lyrics when Eren says: "This world is cruel but I still love you, even if I have to sacrifice everything to protect you." Interestingly, he also says in this lyrics: "Even if this is a mistake, I don't doubt it. What is right is believing in myself strongly." This is Eren's take on Levi's "No regrets" philosophy. During his first meeting with the Female Titan, Eren decided to trust his comrades and ended up regretting his decision. Since then he has become more and more convinced that he should take matters into his own hands, trust his power, and ensure things happen according to his will. We followed him every step of the way thinking this was a hero journey, but now it looks more like a villain origin story. The parallels with the real world are evident. As "Oppenheimer" kindly reminded us, we have the capacity of destroying ourselves. Yet, we keep putting people like Floch and Eren in positions of power. (I mean Putin is still in power in Russia, and according to the recent polls, Trump may return to power in the US.) We may think this is all fantasy, but the fact that the real world "Jaegerists" only became louder after these episodes and claim that Eren's solution is the correct one, only confirms in my mind the idea that this show is nothing but a cautionary tale of what is to come if we keep "repeating the same mistakes, over and over again."

I love that you have your priorities Ola. When Eren revealed that he was playing Zeke all the time your first reaction was: " Okay, so he still loves Mikasa!😍" . Aaaand he doesn't want the Eldians to vanish from the world, but first things first.😂👍 When he was OUR Eren again I couldn't wait to see your reaction to HIS plan for the world and I wasn't disappointed..🧡

Thank you so much Krul, this clears out a lot for me :) haha they went quite literal with "dropping the ball" analogy.
