Thanks for the videos! The Mikasa OVA is very interesting. We know that Mikasa is very obsessed with Eren (sometimes to an almost unhealthy degree) but during the show we get very little insight into why she feels that way. Of course we know that Eren saved her as a child and gave her his scarf but other than that we get to see very little of their day to day interactions. In this episode we finally get a window into Mikasa's mind. Mikasa is a very pragmatic person, sometimes up to a fault. As a child she was very sweet but a little bit passive. (She is a little bit like Levi in that regard, they can be very bad-ass in times of need, but they don't seem to have a lot of plans or dreams of their own.) What she admires about Eren is that he is full of dreams and that he would just "keep moving forward" until he fulfills them. But this part of Eren is also her biggest source of anguish: Eren will stop at nothing and doesn't mind putting his own live at risk in order to get what he wants. She is torn between these two conflicting feelings of wanting to walk besides Eren as he keeps pushing forward and wanting to stop him so that he can be safe and protected. Her almost motherly behavior towards him is probably born out of this (very justified) fear of losing him. In this episode we explore the side of Mikasa that wants to stop Eren, to keep him safe. She creates an imaginary world were she tries to remove every risk to him. She first removes the child traffickers so that he doesn't need to put himself at risk fighting them. He then pushes deep into the forest and puts himself at risk with the wild dogs. So she removes the dogs by having them getting distracted. Then Eren wants to put himself at risk again by joining the scouts. Mikasa then removes the scouts and seals the wall so that he is safe again. Yet he finds another way of putting himself at risk by flying in Armin's balloon and finally dies. Mikasa's conclusion is that Eren will just keep putting himself at risk and that there is nothing she can do to stop him. The only thing she can do is walk by his side, keep pushing forward and try to keep him safe for as long as possible until he finally meets his inevitable demise.

How did I not catch that, of course!! Now I see it, it's amazing what they created with the Mikasa episode, love it, makes so much sense -- and as always, thank you so much for being so patient and explaining it all to me!

Investigator Annie! My favorite OVA lol... I could watch a whole season of her doing police work and beating ass
