Hej Ola!. First of all tx for these podcasts, they keep me good company while doing stuff at home. Here in Italy in general Christmas is a big deal. I m coming from a Christian family but not that praticant or strictly religious (i am so thankful for this because i have your exact view about religion). As a kid i used to go to church with my parents because i sang in the choir, but when i chose to stop going, my parents never forced me and plus they don t attend to the holy mass anymore XD Anyway, here in my region (Veneto) and other parts of Italy but also other parts of the world we have Saint Lucia that bring gifts every 13th of December and to us is waaay more important than santa claus. I have always knew that the present under the tree (that my family opens the evening of the 24th ), were from my parents. But Saint Lucia is very special, even if i discovered that was a lie when i was 8, because once, while playing as adventurer around the house i found the previous letters i sent her in my mom's closet XD . When i was little we used all to go to my grandma : me, my parents, my little brother (now not so little ) and all my aunts and uncles..i haven t got any cousin so my family is not huge, but this is good, i have almost always avoided embarassing questions. Even if i am from North Italy there has been always looots of food, you know Italian grandmas always makes a truck of food and force you to eat a lot. My gradma always made a plenty of her famous lasagna , her ragù is the best ever (every italian can say this about their grandma, never ever touch the grandma XD)...also she made arrosto with baked potates , tortellini with meath in meat broth and sooo much ore stuff XD. Now that my grandma is old we don t force her to cook, so we just go and visit bringing some pastries and go to plat the traditional Christmas Tombola..and play cards. But even if now it s just the 4 of us, we still make plenty of food every year XD .

Thank you for your heartfelt stories, Ola! It's so atmospheric to listen to it. I also am not religious, I guess for 6 years now, but I treat religious people with respect, if they truly believe in something and follow it. Of course, religious part of Christmas is very important, but for me personally this time of the year is more like a calendar reason for giving presents to friends and family and for making kind wishes to them. We decorate the flat with lights, decorating a small Christmas tree, cooking favourite dishes. Now it's not to much snow in my hometown, so there's no Christmas mood yet, but I hope it comes soon! Wish you happy holidays, Ola. Take care <3

Thanks so much for sharing Giada! Also, now I crave Italian food, dammit :) well, hopefully one day I am able to visit so we can eat properly (like I visited Lorenzo and we met in Naples!), I mean one of the main reasons for going to Italy is delicious food :) also, it's kinda funny how you said you did not believe in Santa, but you believed in Saint Lucia xD anyway, Merry Christmas!
