A few times a year this happens.

Luckily the king has a handful of loyal subjects he can count upon. They know the deal and manner in which to approach his majesty whenever he get's a bit too... fired up. His scales start to sizzle a bit... he loses his patience more often than normal. Impatient with the slightest of things. He get's like this whenever he get's into what they can only count as "in heat".

They handle it appropriately of course, there's only one way to sedate such a beast like him. The ordeal usually only takes one night, but once or twice a year it rolls over a day or two. By then everyone is exhausted and well spent for weeks. Not the king though, he's back to his normal self and full of energy... he just.... needs a good soaking to get rid of the... uhhh, lingering scents~
