Hi there! Progress in the cove is slow and painful, but it’s still progress. I’ve been looking at a lot of art that’s really inspired and it really makes me want to improve, so I’m trying to edge away a little from my current “style” in favour of new techniques – it’s new, it’s frustrating and it’s fun (when I can force myself to turn on the workstation)!

Below are some WIPs to help me get back into things so I can finish my last comms (Kirbyyyyyy, your patience will be rewarded!) One is from my Zoobound concept, the other is, well…

I've gotta figure out an appropriate headline for Nick's feature, so if you have any suggestions please let me know! Obvi this is a sketch, but I'm hoping to make this rendered with proper lighting and detailing. Anxious for the results!

I started throwing paint all over the place in frustration last week and wound up with this. I haven't rendered anything this much since...I honestly don't know (this was before VQ cover, which I made last night)! This is a scene from Zoobound (1) with a widescreen aspect ratio since I wanted to make this like a movie still. Judy has visions of grandeur while Mom is trying to talk her off a cliff (literally). In my mind there is ZB 1, 2 and 3 – the main stories – and then the serial, episodic stories in between. These are my daydreams, don’t @ me XD. While I could make it a comic, I honestly want to make ANIMATED art. Even if I storyboarded the whole “movie” series, I’d be happy. While I’ve come to actually enjoy illustration, I really want to tell a story through multiple images, not just one.

But I'm notoriously bad at sharing my stories because of how self-conscious I am about my writing, which is why ZB will probably stay in production hell (aka my head or the little green book) XD

I'll finish both and share once they're ready!

Streaming Tonite @ 8P EST

You can help me get back into the swing of things by swinging by my 8P stream if you'd like! On Picarto as usual. Will either be attempting Kirby's sheets or one of the two WIPs above.

CNMC Update

You talked, I listened, we agree. I'm gonna work on CNMC in private and get it done by the holidays next year, that way we're not all stuck in Christmas forever XD. I might share little snippets, but no page updates until then. Heck, with the extra time maybe I'll color it like everyone else is doing (they're geniuses, but I can try to be like them)!

Stay snazzy and maybe I'll see some of you tonite!

I'm glad to hear you're getting back into the swing of things Qal! Looking forward to seeing the stream! The WIPs look stunning especially the zoobound/feral one!

KirbyTAB

Lordy loo Qal, busy busy Sqorl girl. I've told you twice actually, take your time. My sheets are not that important, don't stress over little ol me or the dumb things I commission, I will patiently wait. I'm also glad to see I'm not the only one who visualizes their stories as movies in their head. Except at least you can bring em to life, all I can do is poorly type them on a google doc. XD can't wait fo the stream and you totally "not getting distracted" while drawing.

side-fish

Oh boy 😮 *writes down notes* 🙃... Fish-only diet is not the way 😮 Also, that Nick 🙃

Jake

How about an article on how to deal with your winter coat coming in early. In a city where you can go from desert to tundra by crossing the street, I imagine that would throw the body's natural clock all out of whack.

Jake

Or maybe for Nick's article, the tag line could read, "From wheel and deal to protect and serve."

Jake

Or the veracity of bunny bedroom stereotypes. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

KinotheFox

The colors in these look so amazing Qal!

qalcove

I really wish I could reply in gifs XD I REALLY like this, Jake!

qalcove

Ooooh that's true too! I always wondered how all the wildly different worlds affected the species not accustomed to it.

InTheLionsDen

Both of these look great. Looking forward to the stream. Not every drawing needs to be refined to be absolutely picture perfect. Sometimes a sketch idea is fine as a rough sketch to get the feel of the pose, action and/or message without spending a lot of time on it. Leaves more time for other concept or story sketches. May the power of the quick doodle bring you greatness.

Colonel Arbuckle

Absolutely love these WIPs, Qal!! Love that you're trying new things! I REALLY like Jake's second idea for Nick's article title! Looking forward to the stream tonight! <3

ArtAnimationFan

These are looking great so far, and it's cool that you're trying new art styles (not that there anything wrong with yours).

Radio Ardilla

For the article- how about "Nick Wilde's tips on how to maintain a successful predator/prey relationship and why mix species relationship are not a fad."
