Good morning, guys! I didn’t realize that this post failed to post due to an error so I apologize for the delay. With a new desk and the house all together, I’m happy to say I’m finally back to the Alcove and preparing to make 2020 a very big year for my art. I’ve got a lot to unpack and questions to ask you all, so let’s jump right in!

The ZPD: Into the Storyboard

I got a fancy new program called Storyboard Pro for my actual computer and have started the boards on a gift we wanna give to everyone this winter! It’s so fun to see the script, drawings, and voices all come together Iike this and I’m excited to share it with you! I’m not sure if we want to share this on Patreon, but I’ll give you guys this suuuuper short snippet of what’s happening, sans audio and dialogue, until I check with the team!. Check the attachment below (and if it doesn’t work, let’s me know in the comments)!

Leaving Patreon? Or A Big Revamp?

I need your help in making this decision. I’ve thought it over for months to how I haven’t been able to deliver this year the way I wanted to. Whether it was the injury, the big move, the death, the second move, or the job change it really felt like I couldn’t catch a heccin break this year and I hate that it affected my ability to give back to you all. Despite the above, some of you have been sticking around supporting me and believing me and I just... I’m so appreciative of that. I feel like I let you all down though.

So I’m opening the floor for discussion. I’m considering terminating this account and switching to Ko-fi. Or, alternatively, making a few changes. But I also want to know what YOU want to see me post or even what you were hoping to see here. I want to know how to serve you all!

The major change  dropping the multi-tier system and just sticking to one $5 tier that give you access to everything: storyboards, sketches, priority for commissions (when open), monthly events, etc. I know some are pledging more than that now, so I really want your opinion on this! These changes would be effective Jan 1st, 2020.

I‘m really anxious to her from you all and can’t wait to discuss this and hear your opinions. I’m really serious when I say I wanna makes 2020 an awesome year and part of that isn’t knowing whether to revamp Patreon or put the pony to sleep. More art coming this month! Love you guys!

I'm not picky so long it is a drawing or some text explaining future happenings once a month, that's fine with me. As for the tier: I would be really glad if you stick with the setup you have now.

I can’t speak for anyone else but I would hate to see you leave Patreon. Whether you post as much as you would like to or not, I want to help support your artworks! I’m not really a fan of Ko-Fi just because I’m a set it and forget it type and the last time I used Ko-Fi I couldn’t set up a recurring donation like Patreon. But I will continue to support you whatever you decide to do.

The attachment worked fine for me. Looks good. Thanks for the mini sneak peek. You had a lot of disruptions in your life in the past while. There will always be things happening, that is just life, but hopefully things will stabilize for a while for you to get somewhat settled in. Whether it is Patreon or some other way to continue supporting you is up to you. I would prefer a service where I can set up a subscription otherwise I will probably forget to do it on a regular basis. While I have done the occasional one-shot use of Ko-fi I am not familiar with their subscription services so from the supporters side of things I can't say which I would prefer or if it would even matter. I have a slight leaning towards Patreon but only because I already have things set up there and don't on Ko-fi. Like any change some supporters might be lost if they are not already on Ko-fi but I would be willing to switch to Ko-fi to support you if it came to that. Getting an occasional WIP sketch, doodle, or early peek at something has been fine with me. I am currently at the $5 level so changing to a one tier flat rate isn't going to affect either of us in regards to my support.

This looks awesome Qal, we’re always here for support

Thank you for your input, Unogazzy! Communication was definitely a weak point for me, so I'd like to reach out more. I'm curious about your $3 pledge (SUPER appreciative of it!) since I never know how incentives work for people who don't fit the model. Perhaps a 1-3-5 tier system would be best.

I really appreciate your support, Turjas, I really do! Ko-fi is like a one-time support kind of thing from what I gather. Literally like a tip jar. I'm still fascinated by the fact that people actually subscribe to this site genuinely wanting to support creators monetarily - the whole concept is insanely beautiful to me. I just want to make sure you're getting your money's worth.

Thanks for sharing these adorable sketches with us, Qal! They're super cute! I especially like the one of Judy snuggling into her scarf. And The ZPD storyboard looks amazing! I'm sure the new program was a big help and I'm so glad you were able to get it! I'm so excited to see the project coming together! I know you've had a very turbulent and very challenging past several months. Sometimes life is like that, and you can't beat yourself up over it! And you've given us a lot more than I think you're giving yourself credit for this past year. Sure, there were some slower periods, but during the times when you were regularly posting here, you were sharing some AMAZING stuff. As just one example, I absolutely loved your Judy July and Zinktober posts. Whether you decide to make changes to your Patreon or not, (I think the tiers you have now are perfectly fine the way they are) I DO hope you at least keep your Patreon. I really enjoy being able to support you and your art on a regular basis, Qal, regardless of whether you have a few slow periods where you can't post. It always gives me the warm fuzzies when you share with us about another investment you've made in developing your talent and growing as an artist; your mention in this post of buying Storyboard Pro is a perfect example. I fear that if you transition to another method of support/contribution, particularly one without some sort of "auto pay" feature, that those instances will become fewer and farther between. I hope that gives you some idea of my thoughts on the matter. I hope you're settling into your new home nicely and that you're having a wonderful start to your Christmas season! I just hung the Christmas commission you did for me last year back on the wall a few days ago as part of my decorating and it still looks as beautiful as the day you finished it! Praying for you as always, Qal! *hugs*

Qalcove, please don’t terminate your account your art is so cuutteee. But everything on a side, do what is best for you. And, in terms of tiers, I’d like to say maybe keep the tiers? (Just my opinion) But besides from that I hope you achieve greatness in your new place and become even more awesome. I really hope that every contribution helps you build something unique and special. Finally, I just wanna say maybe making more friends can help too. Personally, being a Turkish guy in Canada can sometimes be tough because you are living in a different country. My point is, the more friends you make that are willing to be with you in long run, I feel like you feel more at home. As always, stay safe... 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

Thank you for being so supportive of me despite everything that's happened, InTheLionsDen. I never considered the fact that people are supporting several artists on Patreon and how simple that makes things for people like you. So then it's just a matter if keeping it or not. Thank you so much for the input!

qalcove

I'm glad you liked them, Colonel! I'm hoping we can share more with you guys! I'm really happy that you liked the monthly event too; I have some lined up for next year as well :-). The fact that you hung up my commission for you just warms my heart SO much. That's like everything to me! And that you find joy in my investments as I do. I will be thinking over everything you and everyone else has mentioned. Thank you so SO much for everything!

qalcove

Thank you so much Ege! You're right about it all, and I hope you're having a good time in Canada and making friends there and online!

Tiger Bonsu

PS: When commissions are open I’d like to commission you Qal, you’re an amazing artist

Tiger Bonsu

I’m happy to call you my friend Qal You’re such a sweet person and so wholesome. I mean you just bring good vibes

qalcove

I try my best to, Ege! Life is so short, I just wanna make my art and bring joy to those who enjoy my art!

Tiger Bonsu

And you definitely do so

First of all let's set the record straight: You didn't let anyone down. If we thought we weren't getting our money's worth we wouldn't be here. We like supporting you and you art because your talent and dedication is only surpassed by your kindness and positivity. That having been cleared up, I would prefer if you stayed on Patreon because I would imagine I'd forget using Ko-Fi. 2020 is going to be your year, and I hope you will continue to let us be a part of it. (And I agree with Ege. Let me know when you are open for commissions and I fight him to be first in line.) ;)

qalcove

T___T Thank yoouuuu. 2020 isn't gonna just be my year, it's gonna be OUR year! I'm really excited for it!
