Zootopia OST:

This idea is brought to you by Mattimeo! I actually progressed to her actually being able to play an instrument. I originally chose a flute and was gonna make something bright, but after considering the score I picked my second favorite track: Michael Giacchino - Some of My Best Friends Are Predators. It's heavy on the strings, which are my personal favorite instruments, and are easy to convey emotion with. Here, Judy is reliving the regret she had during this particular part of the film - her fallout with Nick after the press conference. What did it feel like for her to be her? To have that shame? To feel like you lost someone special? To believe that you could've been the reason for a societal collapse? What did it feel like to go home after not only leaving her dream behind, but feeling like she failed at it miserably?

While I tried to think of how Judy might feel playing this, I actually channeled quite a bit of the sadness I felt after watching this scene in theaters (and every time afterwards). I'd been rooting for Jude since the beginning, but once she brought up the "biology" comment and started showing some of her other layers I immediately jumped on Nick's side, anxiously hoping Judy wasn't gonna dig too big a hole. I'd had a similar experience when I was younger and remembered that same resentment, disbelief, disappointment, and sadness that Nick had when she responded to him - that kind of experience really does hurt. But at the same time, watching Judy's mental process during this scene made me realize how our prior programming shapes us as people, and how unaware we can be towards the more poisonous traits. Judy's not perfect and neither is Nick. Nor am I. Nor is anybody. We all just have to be introspective and work through some of our more rotten layers. I'm so glad Disney tackled these realities, no matter how tense and uncomfortable they are. We just gotta keep trying to make the world a better place together!

Again, thank you guys SO much for all the ideas!

This is my favorite piece of yours so far. (And not because It was my recommendation). You can really feel the emotion. So sad, yet so good!

This is beautiful Qal! The emotion of how this song along with this picture is captured perfectly. This is the reason why I love Disney movies. The characters not only have a conflict in society but usually have to face their inner demons as the same time. It's a perfect simulation of our real life conflicts in a fantasy world that is so beautifully brought to life through animation and clever writing. Thank you for bringing these themes to life, Qal! I can't wait to see what tomorrow has in store!

Wow, this piece is DEEP, Qal. You put a lot of thought into it and it shows. You can really feel her regret about the whole situation. Keep up the absolutely outstanding work!!

CimarWildeHopps

You really captured her melancholy here, Qal, and this is a beautiful piece for showing that!!
