I think Kataoka feels worse not only because last year but because the team hasnt gone to Nationals since he has been the coach (not including his first year since those were basically Coach Sakaki's students) and the 3rd years were the culmination of all his coaching philosophies and improvements since being made coach and.., they lost. So that all together probably hits a lot harder and he's feeling doubt at his abilities to coach... considering Seido is a National level school with great players coming every single year. Its tough and I appreciate your reaction so much because I never really went into a deep dive on Coach Kataoka's struggles even after watching this series MULTIPLE times. Its a great new experience :D I also feel like they started Furuya because this team is very strong against Eijun who is a contact pitcher (he relies on batters hitting the ball and getting jammed or hitting off the mark) and Furuya is all about power and forcing strikes. Which arguably isnt the best counter to a hard hitting team, its too reliant on them not being able to keep up with the speed. The best counter for this team is Kawakami. He specialises in pitching low and with breaking balls to make batters swing at air, no matter how hard they swing it means nothing if it goes above the ball, and if they do hit itll be forced into the ground and the fielders and can work with that.... Buttttt since he hasn't been up to form lately plus these batters have a lot of pressure and thats what Kawakami has always had trouble with... it was more like they were forced to start Furuya.

FYI I think its so funny how weve been mentioning how Furuya never speaks up so we dont know what hes thinking and then this episode is the one time he actually lets us into his head xD also, pay attention to WHO it is Furuya is always speaking to when he does open up :) I LOVE THEIR RIVALRY!!!!
