I think its just beautiful how the mangaka made a call back by having Eijun with that dead look in his eye like Chris had then Chris coming back brought the life in his eyes, just like Eijun did.... beautiful writing. Plus the entire game was just an amazing passing of the torch! I cry this episode every. single. time. I rewatch it And considering the entire Fall Tournament is during Eijun's first year, the Third years will still be in school :)

The third years will still be third years and there won't be new first year's yet. Remember Sawamura came to Seidou in the spring so we won't see new first year's until the spring. The third years are still at the school they just don't live in those dorms anymore, they have dorms specifically for the third years so they can study and not be bothered by the other players going in and out at random times for practice. Just think of the opposite seasons of North America for the year start. We start in fall, they start in spring.
