Elliot Page is a Canadian actor who would first come to my attention in the absolute top-tier belter, Hard Candy. I don't quite know why I was so obsessed with that movie when I first saw it but it set in motion a long-lasting love affair with its leading star. Elliot came out as trans in 2020 and would continue to be the absolute goat in Netflix comic-adaptation The Umbrella Academy, so let's settle in for an hour of disastrous pod as we discuss an icon.

This pod contains discussions pertaining to the last episode, The Disappearance of Margaret Fleming as well as the subject matter of the film Hard Candy.

re: attraction to Elliot before and after transition - I am a cis, lesbian woman who is sometimes attracted to gay men and used to be perplexed everytime it happened. A friend said one day, maybe you're attracted to androgyny (in all its various forms)? was a bit of a lightbulb moment for me. fantastic pod as always, you inspire me to go back and watch films I haven't thought about in years! cheers. ps. have you watched Vanity's barbie diorama vid? soo soothing, I also have put this on to fall asleep so I totally get it.

Elliot Paige is an incredible actor and artist and honestly the only reason to watch Umbrella Academy . But I have never seen Hard Candy - it just gives me anxiety knowing what she does to him ( even though he deserves it ) - BUT NOT PATRICK WILSON ! Also that very adult scene with him and Malin Åkerman in Watchmen is Heaven on earth . And yes “what can I do for you” is the intro to that Yuna song in FFX-2 . And I screamed when you sang it 🤣

Juno is one of my favorite movies! It's up there for me near Mean Girls as a movie I still quote all the time. Aside from "Geeeerta Raauuuss!" I have a few bartender friends and whenever they mention alcohol I bring up "I actually heard Snow Peak Peach is the best flavor of Boone's, right Bleek?" I also really agree with your assessment of the "coolness" of Canada. Thanks to things like Scott Pilgrim I always think of Canada as having this effortless coolness of doing its own thing compared to the States.

Thank you so much for doing a pod on Elliot Page! I adore him. Hard Candy is my favourite of his. As a trans man myself I was delighted when he came out as it’s great to have such talented trans role models. What a brave thing to do in the current climate, too – things are scary right now and representation does the world of good 🙂

New to the Patreon and have really loved your podcast Lymp, it's been super helpful for getting me through my Uni work in the background. Been going through lots of your podcast episodes. Is there any episode of your podcast you would recommend for a new listener?

Okay I’m just catching up on past episodes and before listening to this one, you had said last episode that you struggled to find interesting things to talk about so I have to asked if you’ve heard of Terry Driver “The Abbotsford killer” or Robert William "Willy" Pickton? I’m from a community about an hour away from Vancouver, Canada and these murderers lived in the surrounding area with Terry Driver only living 20 mins away from my childhood home. People get murdered and go missing all the time around there but these crimes turned the entire province and maybe even the country upside down. Thanks again for everything you do! Becoming a patron was the best decision next to subscribing to the channel

I completely forgot about a cutaway I was going to ask about until you mentioned Char. Can you give some context of the video of her in a club falling off a table like a sack of shit! I remember watching hard candy a lot younger than I should have (I worked in a video store so I could rent anything) it was rated R in Australia. The movie was like a car crash, it's horrible but you can not look away, so enthralling I loved it. Also love the cameo/guest spot from Sandra Oh. P.S. your wendigo Sandra Oh joke is in my opinion the funniest joke you've made x

Elliot Page has always struck me as a sensitive & intelligent person, traits that no doubt inform his excellent acting: I've found his performance compelling in everything I've seen. I'm so glad to hear you're a fan of Vanity (she dropped "Faire" some time ago): I adore her! Her podcast with best friend Courtney Act, "Brenda, Call Me!", is also delightful.

I just wanna say as a listener i love hearing Luth McGooth in the background. Our family cat Oscar was a ginger tom and he passed away aged 18 last year. He sounded just like Luther ❤️ its kindof nice hearing his little voice even though i know he must drive you crazy 😂

Elliot Page is an absolute legend, also enjoyed them as the lead in the video game Beyond Two Souls. I'm not sure what Luther was trying to say but my cat was INTRIGUED and kept coming over to investigate.

Luther is hilarious on these pods, just screaming away in the background 😂 I can understand you not even wanting to say the word paedophile, a couple of months ago someone I knew my whole life & who was a friend was jailed for assaulting a young boy & having a computer full of horrific pictures. It makes you sick to think of how you were friends with a person who was like that. I hadn’t really seen him recently but needless to say I have completely removed him from my life. That word makes my skin crawl 🤮
