The Golden Girls is an American sitcom that originally aired on NBC from 1985 to 1992. For something that centres on 4 older women living in Miami that looks like it was filmed on a loaf of bread, it's remarkable that this show is still airing around the world almost 40 years later. I hadn't seen a full episode until a few months ago but as of writing this, I've now watched it through in it's entirety twice and wonder how something so wildly at the intersection of things I'm obsessed with had passed me by for so long.

Also one more comment. I’m always impressed at the resemblance between Dorothy and the actress playing young Dorothy in flash backs.

Fantastic pod! I am just reaching the end of season 6 myself and about to start on season 7. I absolutely adore this show and I hope I’m not alone but I feel like I want to be part of the show when I’m watching it hahaha. My favourite character is Blanche too and just her presence she has when she enters a room and her comments just make me laugh out loud soo much. I’m soo happy you made this POD! And yes Nova is a prick (ref to most recent vid). 🤣🤣 Love ya all! ❤️❤️

Thanks for a wonderful pod as always. We must have started watching the GGs at the same time. I only have one thing to share, my favourite moment https://youtu.be/mXvSdnx_7RA . This is the ‘I hate you Brett’ of my relationship with my boyfriend.

Hi Olympia! While I was at first surprised to hear you say you only recently watched through the Golden Girls, I began to understand why after giving it some thought. I think we're pretty close in age, and if it weren't for my parents being big on watching various sitcoms (Cheers, Rosanne, Frasier, Seinfeld, Friends, etc) on TV with dinner and before bed, it never would have been on my radar either. But once I allowed my young self to get past it being a bunch of old ladies on my screen, I quickly realized just how damn witty and relatable they are. The one-liners always killed me. (Sophia calling Blanche a human mattress). And while there are so many good moments, off the top of my head one of my favorites was when Blanche stays up all night writing her memoirs, thinking they're amazing when it just ends up being all gibberish. And then she sees the egg yolks Rose put in a bag and freaks out, thinking they're little balls of sunshine. Lol. On a more serious note, there's a weirdly hopeful feeling I get from the show. I remember thinking about how these ladies are still living such active and interesting lives, even though they're old. And yes, it's a fictional show so obviously they go through way more crazy shenanigans than your average 50-70 year olds. But it's kind of a relief in a way to think about how getting to that age doesn't mean your life is basically over. Dorothy even still has her mom Sophia around. It kinda puts things in perspective about life and how much more there still is. Yeah it sucks getting older, but the show not only makes me still feel young, but also makes me dread getting older a little less.

I’m so grateful to my mam for introducing me to this on a Saturday morning when I was teenager. I just wish I’d been around for it’s original airing :)
