House of Wax is a title that could refer to two different movies. While I do discuss the 1953 version starring Halloween legend Vincent Price, I'll largely be talking about the underrated 2005 version which sees a group of bratty teenagers (including a certain hotel heiress in her acting debut) finding themselves in peril in a ghost town filled with wax figures. Apart from Hilton's more than competent performance as "scared dumb blonde chick", the atmosphere and soundtrack in this movie bolster it's chilling concept which in my opinion make it a superior naughties horror offering definitely worthy of an October patroëen discussion.

I was 16 at the time House of Wax came out, pretty sure I saw it in the cinema and I remember loving it, I wasn’t a huge horror fan at the time but Chad Michael Murray definitely made me want to see it I remember having a huge crush on him at the time haha ! Genuinely think I’ve only seen it the one time could do with refreshing my memory on it, it seems like it’s been completely forgotten about. The wax figures were really creepy and I loved the score too

I had seen this movie until your pod and I must say, it’s an underrated gem! Did you ever watch the McPhearson Tape, the found footage film that scared me as a kid, that I told you about? I think you’d love it. Another great pod doll

Hey spunky trunks, I know you didn’t want comments about Elisha Cuthbert, but I felt compelled to recommend a sitcom for you called Happy Endings. It’s like Friends, but actually funny and not shit. Elisha Cuthbert is quite good in a comedic role. I feel like you and Nova would enjoy it. Gonna have to go and rewatch House of Wax now. I remember thinking it was shit when I saw it as a teen, but maybe I need to it another go. Alright, ta-ta doll.

Came back to add that I remember when House of Wax was being filmed in Australia and everyone at school was losing their minds that Paris Hilton was in Queensland. Some friends and I even considered driving to the Gold Coast to try and spot her.

I'm currently writing a paper comparing the two Suspirias (I play your podcast in the background while writing it) and I honestly prefer the remake than the original (can't blame me though I'm a weirdo). I haven't watched House of Wax but seeing as its on Netflix so I might as well put it in my watchlist. I loved the pod and I have a question: Have you both watched "The Devils"? It gained controversy due to a gratuitous sex scene involving nuns and a statue of Christ and it seems right up my weirdo alley. Cheers! xo

Greetings my dearest Olympia, hope you’ve had a wonderful Halloween week! Firstly, that “Char prank” video was one of the best Halloween treats I’ve had in a while so thank you muchly for that. Secondly, your pods have inspired me greatly this Halloween period and last night my flat mate and I watched House of Wax and then the Babadook in a double bill sesh! Wildly different vibes as you can imagine but enjoyable nonetheless. Never seen house of wax before and honestly from when they arrive in the town onwards the film is SO enjoyable, Paris’ chase scene being a personal highlight, and the Babadook is a nightmarish treat as always! Love ya both, hope all is well and happy Halloween! x

I must admit, as an avid horror and semi Paris Hilton fan, I have never seen house of wax. But rest assured I shall be watching it this weekend as part of my Halloween viewing. It sounds right up my street and I’m sure will be added to my Halloween watch list. Along with the great Novympia Halloween Prank of 2021! What a masterpiece that was!! You truly had me watching through my fingers at some points. The perfect mix of most haunted, ghost watch and hereditary. It was so fucking clever and the way you led up to it with the previous episodes of the pod. It really helped set the scene. You should be so incredibly proud of it. I imagine it has been somewhat of an ambition of yours to create something like this and I’m so happy you did and did it so brilliantly. I see more full length, narrative based content like this in your future!

Love that film! I watched it all the time when I was a kid! My sister watched this with a group of her friends in theaters after her prom. Would you ever do videos of the pod to accompany? I feel it would be a bit of treat for us if you did. Video or not either way, it’s always something I look forward to every week! Love ya doll! 💜

I quite like this film. Not a masterpiece but certainly entertaining. I didn’t think Paris Hilton’s acting was that bad either. She’s quite a sly person from what I’ve heard, so she’d had a bit of acting experience just maintaining that “dumb” persona for so long.
