The Babadook is a psychological horror film that appeared in 2014, seemingly out of nowhere, to scare unsuspecting audiences into a lifetime of post-viewing, keck-crapping trauma. It's something that Nova and I love to watch with people when they haven't seen it, to witness firsthand how terrifying it is.

Love my little mention I was the one who suggested the dictionary video. I just think it would be hilarious AND educational. I hope you and the gang have a good week bab ❤❤

Whilst we're still on the Ghostwatch, I'm a big horror fan and was surprised how creeped out I was watching it for the first time recently! Even though there's not the pretense of it being live, seeing the 90s of my childhood looking how I remember it, and then turning so sinister was so unnerving! And I'm not scared by movies easily! Once it ended I thought how I'd be absolutely shitting myself watching it 'live' as a kid in 1992... when all of a sudden it sounded like glass smashed in the kitchen, at which I point I did shit myself! (It was just the little cage holding the soapdish falling off the wall in the bathroom, but still 😅😅) And since you brought up Hellraiser, if you're still looking for recommendations on a spooky book to read on the pod, maybe give the original short story it's based on (The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker) a look. The whole thing can be read aloud in about 3 hours. Could be a good pick if you enjoy the movie!

I believe it became a meme after Netflix accidentally listed it in the LGBTQ section and then I think people started reaching a bit xx

I need tot keep a running commentary, since you have so many wonderful thoughts... First, I loved "A Fine Romance" and my middle name is Amelia. They say Amelia Earhart crash landed on an island where she was torn apart by giant coconut crabs (don't look it up, they are gross).

I saw it when it was on Netflix and I wanted to watch it again to see the little nuances that were so easily missed if you were not looking at the right part of the screen. I am not easily scared, but it struck me as a mother defending her child. If you let it get into your head, it can conjure up all of your childhood fears, for sure.

Hey lymp, been meaning to comment on this one as it I love talking about horrors. Like yourself, I am also a horror movie junkie and have been watching a horror movie most nights through October. Just watched Jeepers Creepers tonight (something light for a tuesday eve). So, I watched the Babadook a couple years ago and I actually didn't find it that scary. And I don't mean that in some arsehole way of "oh it isn't even scary" because I get scared by some questionable shit and it definitely had some creepy moments. But, personally, I saw it as more of a thriller and was more invested in the storyline than the horror. I thought it was an excellent movie and the twist of it being a film about grief was very intelligent. But it didn't scare me that much. But, I get more scared by "this could actually happen" types of films, such as the strangers and BWP, and paranormal ones like the conjuring. I also found Gerald's Game ABSOLUTELY DISTURBING and had weird dreams for like a week afterwards. But after listening to this, I feel like maybe I didn't watch the Babadook as closely as I should have so will rewatch it this month to get a fresh take. Out of curiosity, have you watched Cry Wolf? Absolute horse shit horror but an old fave of mine about a bunch of school "kids" initiating a new student into their school. I feel like I could talk with you about horror movies for hours so I will leave it here but interested to know what other horrors you love (apart from Blair Witch, which I also love)! P.S. out of all the horrors I could have asked you about I can't believe I asked about Cry Wolf 😭

First time podcast commenter after joining the patreon recently. Just wanted to say I've been binging Full Of It episodes these last couple weeks and having such a blast. Love your dulcet tones, really does brighten my day. All the topics have been right up my alley, Ghostwatch and Cicada 3301 were two that were particularly fascinating. Not sure i'll ever get caught up with the rate you release them but I'm gonna bloody try. Wanted to ask if there were any particular fav episodes out of the 176 so far? x

If I remember correctly, the reason the Babdook became a gay icon was because there was a mix up on the description of it on Netflix or something and it had another film's synopsis which was for an LGBT+ film, and the internet just went with it Edited to add: It wasn't the synopsis, but the category on Netflix which said it was an LGBT film

I finally watched the Babadook after listening to this. My first thoughts when it began was “it looks like they live in a total crap hole” and then I googled where it was set. Turns out it’s my hometown of Adelaide 🤦‍♂️😂
