The Sweetest Thing is a 2002 American rom-com starring Cameron Diaz, Christina Applegate and Selma Blair. Released to hideous reviews and an underwhelming box-office performance, I've decided that the film has earned cult status despite there being no mention of its greatness online. I first saw the movie as a closeted teenager before I was of legal age to view it and it swiftly became a goldmine of quotes between my friend Al and I. The weird thing is seeing the slew of negative criticism coming largely from men on Rotten Tomatoes and how it all has an alarmingly blatant air of misogyny.

We didn't care that they were women when we were teens, we still saw ourselves in the characters (which might seem odd given how predisposed we were to throwing people off the gay scent). I think it all speaks to how universally underrated this gem is. It'd kill if it was released today - but in a Y2K world, men didn't want to see women acting like them.

Contains very brief allusions to eating disorders.

So after listening to the pod I went and watched the film, the only problem was I watched the rated version which cut the penis song. Watched it after I finished watching the film (thank you Youtube). Had I watched it with that scene included I wouldn't have thought it really odd about the number of people in the room when Selma Blair's character got stuck giving a BJ. Also, the whole wedding scene I couldn't get over how much Parker Posey in that wedding dress looks like Elizabeth Banks, maybe that's just me. Speaking of underrated films I recently had a craving to watch Burlesque and was so glad I did. Cher and Christina were brilliant, Stanley Tucci (best straight actor around playing gay roles) with some of the best lines, and lets not forget the glorious Cam Gigandet. As a side note, I've listened to 'Full of' since joining at the end of July. Need to find the time to listen to the back catalogue. This alone is worth the monthly fee, everything else is just cherry. Can't wait to see what Nova going full time will allow her to do!

The amount of times I say "Hello, is Jane there" in that voice at work should be illegal!
